A64 vs P4-HT !

A64 3200+ 939 90nm (with a solid nforce4 ultra board when they come out) imo. if you are into oc'ing...
A64 3000+ 939 90nm has a 9x multiplier while the A64 3200+ has a 10x multiplier.

This post is getting off topic. Anyways, y dont u read the article on the front page of anandtech whose label says something about a 1066fsb p4ee. It has various benches within and some suggestions on similar processors that are within the area that you are looking at.

Oh, i see you live in India! cool, yea you should definetly pick up an AMD then, they run ALOT cooler than intels chips which i think would be better suited for your climate. Also, since you are doing compiling, a 64 bit chip with 64 bit apps would probably give as much as 2-3 times faster compiles. That's no small difference.

For games, compare an athlon 64 2800+ to a p4 3.2Ghz. In encoding, the 2800+ compares to a 2.8-3ghz p4.

HT can help, but does not help as much as people think.

I would get the Athlon 64, as they are cheaper and faster then the P4s at the same price. No P4 can come close to the FX55, and the highest end p4 will be more expensive then it.

The athlon 64 2800 is like 150 bucks. The P43.2 is much more. They are about the same performance level.
