A7N8X-DX will not boot!!

HELP!!!

Computer will turn on for about 4 seconds, will not POST, doesnt display anything and will turn off!


I just built a new computer with an Asus A7N8X-DX mobo, AMD "Barton"2500+, 2x256MB Corsair TwinX PC2700 mem, 430W Antec PS,
ATI 9700(not pro) video card,

Tried everything, Made sure everything was connected, and connected right

Still nothing.

Help me Please

first unplug all ur devices just leaving power to the mainboard and keep ur 9700 pro in. then try to turn it on with just the monitor plugged in if it dosent post check ur heatsink if its not connected the computer will shutdown automaticly to stop it from damaging the processor. also if ur heatsink is on backwards it will stop the computer from booting up aswell

Yeah, make sure the HSF is positioned right. Also, unplgug everything but ram, even the 9700. If it runs for more than 4 seconds, add the 9700 back in and see if it will POST. It may seem odd, but I have seen a 400W PS get over drawn by a setup like yours w/ 2 HDs and 2 optical. If there's a weakness in it, then it can't provide the power its rated at and it won't run. Let know any other information you can too.

Check Bios pins, if necessary reset the bios. Any maybe try that CPU and only 1 stick of memory?

READ the manual on resetting the bios(clearing the cmos)! The instructions are a little different than just moving the jumper and then putting it back. You have to take out the battery as well....

It was the Heatsink, i turned it around and it fired right up!!


Im using the Zalman CNPS-6000cu, it doesnt say which way to install it, there is no groove for to fit on the raised part of the socket.

O well, it works now!

Don't forget to thank Asus for good thermal protection circuitry. Otherwise your new CPU would be toast.
