a7n8x vs a7n8x-X

and (edit: asus) site....i can't see any difference other than the price

and which would be the better overclocker w/ xp-m2200?

Which A7N8X boards do you mean? The A7N8X-E Deluxe vs the A7N8X-X?
A7N8X-E Deluxe overclocks an XP-M2200+ just fine (see signature). About any nForce2 board would including the A7N8X-X but I'd rather have the extra features of the -E Deluxe.

Of course these are ASUS boards not ABit...

E is a more bundled version, with dual lans, and other add-ons.

the X version is on the economic side; no dual lans, or AGP Pro, or dual channel memory.

AGP Pro provides more power for workstation class cards (Quadro, FireGL).

If you are comparing the plan vanilla A7N8X vs the A7N8X-X, the only thing that's missing is dual channel memory support.

I would definately go with an Abit NF7 or NF7-S over either of them if you are OCing.

another question, not about the asus board
rather the nf7-s2 which has 3 dimm slots
do i lose dual channel performance advantage by using all 3 slots, even if
they're identical ram?

or will 1 pair will operate in dual channel mode and the other one would
jump improve the memory cache (and the lack for harddisk base cache file)

sorry if i'm babbling, so in other words, performance wise (multi tasking, alt tab
between lotta applications)

will 1gig of pc3200 in dual channel mode > 1.5gig pc3200 in regular mode
