I have an Asus A7V motherboard (original) with multiplier dipswitches, purchased in October. It's the revision 1.01, if that makes any difference.

Anyway, I just updated to the Beta 1.008D BIOS by using the AsusUpdate utility, and after rebooting my system won't even POST!! I believe I was previously using the 1.007 BIOS. Now there is no display, no beep, and the keyboard lights don't even flash when I boot the system. As far as I can tell, there is no way to even enter the BIOS.

I'm thinking something must have gotten corrupted during the flashing process. Anyone else run into this before? Is there anything I can do about it besides replacing my motherboard?

Did the flash utility tell you the flash was done successfully? Did you back up the old bios before you flashed the new one? If you get no screen to be able to boot to a floppy from, you are done. You can call asus and they will sell you a new cmos chip. Not sure how much they are though. If I remember correctly, they are not too much. They are easy to change out. You can get a chip puller from radio shack for a couple of dollars. It will keep you from embedding the chip legs into your fingers if it slips while you are taking the cmos chip out.
I have read about guys taking the cmos chip out and plugging it into a board while it is running and reflashing it that way. If you do it that way, you could reflash it with your old bios if you backed it up. but do that at your own risk. Removing a chip while the system is powered up is flirting with disaster. One arc, and the chip is really gone.

good luck

here's a last-ditch suggestion, but ONLY try this if nothing else works because i've only read about this but never tried it!!!

if you look at your motherboard you will see one chip with a shiny, reflective sticker on it...this is your bios chip...the reason it has that sticker on it is because cmos chips can be erased if they are exposed to ultra-violet light...you ought to be able to peel that sticker back and expose the little "window" on the chip to a flourescent (maybe incandescent, i'm not sure) light for a little while, then cover it back up and re-flash your bios...

but like i said, i have NEVER had to try this, so i have no idea how you would manage to flash the bios again since i highly dought the system would post after doing this.....

as for the other suggestion about setting a jumper to stop the battery, that won't work...that will reset any settings in the bios to their default settings but not do anything to the actual bios itself...
