A8N-SLI + cnps7700cu + fanmate?

I'm setting up a new system, and it's pretty much all together except the a64 san diego 4000+ (dammit). But I'm a bit confused about wiring the CPU fan.

The 7700 came with a little "fanmate" controller, but the ASUS motherboard has this q-fan thing that supposedly controls CPU fan speed. Should I ditch the fanmate and just plug the 7700 into the MB's CPU fan plug? Or plug the fanmate into that plug? Or plug the fanmate into some other plug?

If you want to be able to control the speed of the fan manually, then use it. I run mine on an Asus A8N-SLI without the fanmate. It's plugged right into the board.
I tried it with the fanmate, but it did no good for me. I never touched the control.

My vote is for Q-Fan..works fine and you can adjust the rpm-curve with the maxTemp-Value in BIOS...

I use my Fanmate for the GPU Fan

I'd just plug it directly into the mainboard. Even at high speeds, you barely hear the fan.

I dumped the fanmate and plugged right into the board, and use Speedfan to vary the speed depending on temperature. Works great!

You have to plug it into the motherboard unless your fan runs on pixie dust.

With or without the fanmate, the damn thing is near silent.

Huh? To be honest I think it is loud as hell with full speed (aka 2000 rpm).
But that may also be my rig being extremely silent (every HDD seek feels like an earthquake )

how do you use speedfan, when i put q-fan on it lets me adjust the fans but only down from its already slowed speed, and when q-fan is off then i cant adjust it at all.
