There exists three types of Android user: The poor uninformed consumer who is happy with anything resembling an iPhone as long as it's cheap, the finicky PC geek who rabbits on about "customization" and rails against Apple's "walled garden," and the perpetually unsatisfied consumer cum former iPhone user who wants something different purely for the sake of different.

I have never seen a non-iPad tablet in the wild. Not once. Board a flight and it's all iPads. Walk into a coffee shop and it's a sea of iPads and MacBooks.

I know Android is selling, but who is buying these things and where the hell do they live?

Answer: They aren't marketed well enough. My GF owns a Nexus 7 and you can be damn sure if we took a plane she'd bring it. Its a nice tablet. Nothing wrong with the apple ones either, but this was just $200 and does everything she wants while being enjoyable to use.

I think (no joke) I've seen no more than 4 or 5 Android tablets in the past 2 years. I'm not saying they don't exist, but everyone seems to have an iPad.

I know a LOT more people with Android products than i* products.

it seems Xanis is specifically addressing tablets, and I would agree with him. I know exactly one person that has a Galaxy tablet, and every other one I have noticed was an iPad.

different with phones though, and especially living in Berkeley and on campus all day, which is probably the biggest Apple knob-schlobbing population anywhere, I am seeing mostly S3s, Notes, and Nexus. Still plenty of iPhones, though.

Another thing--some of the Apple zealots earlier (think i quoted it above) mentioned 3 types of Android users the first being one that uses those tiny free "Android phones." Sure, those are starting to exist, but for the most part, these tiny little free phones aren't Android devices.

Something tells me ipad and iPhone unit sales will be much stronger than a year ago quarter when they report next Tuesday, just like last quarter (apples biggest ever).

It's not demand ffs, just look how many units they are selling... In the prior year ago quarter they sold 37million iPhones and Wall Street went apeshit with glee, last quarter (with speculation of "weak" demand) they did 47 million iPhones. Their ipad unit growth was significantly stronger.

Apple was priced at a 15-20% growth company while it was growing at 50%+ for years. It's held to a different standard, but don't confuse their unit sales (robust) with their price per share (dying). Next Tuesday they are damned if they do (weak demand will travel to next quarter) damned if they don't (weak demand... On par but not exceeding huge growth over last two years).

You're right, I was just referring to tablets. I see quite a few Android phones out and about, and probably 90% of the people of my company have newer Android devices. What I was implying by my earlier post is that Apple *appears* to be dominating the tablet game, even though they're pretty close with Apple in market share, IIRC.

Earnings report in 30 minutes.

Will they drag the whole market into a sell-off tomorrow and beyond with their soffft earnings?

"Timmah" Cook better use that $137 billion in cash he's sitting on and announce a huge dividend today or the stock will be dumped tomorrow and he'll be looking for a job in 6 months.

ATT earnings released.....lower. After hours trading is down on ATT (-1.67% and counting).

Looking more & more that Apple's earnings, coming out in the coming hour, won't be good.

CNBC is covering this story well.

Apple will unfortunately direct the market this month.

I'd guess 2-5% drop for apple shares after ER. Sidelined through ER though.

Earnings above estimate. Guidance disappointing. Dividend increased 15%.

After Hours share trading halted. LOL.

Big buy back news, but guidance is bad.

Sales up 11% over Big year ago quarter.

Apple is selling more iPhones and iPads than ever, but margins and price the units are fetching are down. iPad mini accounts for most ipad sales.

Glad I was sidelined. Had I had the earnings release early I would have shorted. AAPL remains a stock to be avoided, it proves efficient markets we have not.

Last ER, Apples biggest and most profitable ever, saw shares take their worst one day loss ever (12.3%) due to weak guidance (slightly below estimates).

This ER apple beat slightly on earnings but gave guidance that is below even the worst case scenarios laid out for expectations of Q3. Apple could see unit sales rise, but overall EPS down 10-15% for the year which hits every bodies biggest fears of the reality of margin compression taking hold. One of the only metrics where apple wasn't undervalued relative to its peers was price to sales, with margin compression this would indicate apple is overvalued based on that metric.

Ah well, anytime a company makes 10B in profit in a quarter and gets bashed.... we know the puppet masters have done their job.

Your opinion is shared among many pro traders. Same shit is true with Netflix......Nonsensical volatility/trader plays.

...Too much heartburn these days.

Word is Wallstreet is not happy that AAPL is not trading in the 1200's right now. Rumor has it that Al Dunlap might be replacing Tim Cook in the next few months. Al Dunlap was able to quadruple the price of Sunbeam when he took over, so this is what they are hoping for when he steps in.

If he can do what he did with Sunbeam, AAPL might jump from 400 a share to 1600 dollars a share in the next 12-24 months.

Apple announces exactly what all the rumor sites have been expecting for months now, and the stock plummets. Go figure...

Pretty sure it plummeted more on the China Mobile deal not happening as expected.

But yes, historically, AAPL drops after their annual event/conference.
