Was there last night, they were clearing out winter sweaters for $19.50 and taking 40% off the lowest price of all red-line items (the tags have a red line). Picked up a jacket, normal price $129.99 marked down to $99.99, and since it was red-line got another 40% so total cost $59.99. This was at the one in Roseville CA but I'm pretty sure this is a nation-wide deal.

BTW those girls in the AF ads on the walls are pretty hot
Definately one huge reason to still shop at B&M

Had their stock for a while. Abercrombie (ANF) is an interesting story. They used to be a stodgy upperclass vendor of quaint outdoor gear for the Land Rover set. They weren't doing too well.

They transformed themselves into a trendy clothing store targetting specifically 14-24 yr old frat boys. (You would kind of think gay frat boys from the giant semi-nude pictures of male models all over their walls.)

Recently they faced the fact that most clothing is sold to women (they buy more and pay more). So they've managed to reverse their sales and much improve their womens' line. How?

Management didn't use these exact words, but their old unisex womens' line was attracting a kind of butch masculine (unfeminine was their word I believe) kind of customer. They move to tube tops and tight sweaters (going for a more sexy feminine look.) They did very well with that...

On the pricing thing. It's always more profitable to overstock for the holidays than to understock and run out of things. That's why you always have post holiday sales. They have to liquidate before things go out of fashion.
Usually they want to clear out the old junk before Valentine's day.
That's retail.

Rochlin is absolutely correct. I admit I kind of like ANF clothes but I wouldnt' be caught dead in them. I really think they are super overpriced and too white upper class.

Here's something I found really funny in my friend's AIM away message. The people speaking are some of his college buddies:

"The sad thing is, there are a lot of stupid people in this world. (Beth)
Yeah, but as long as we have Abercrombie and Fitch, we'll know who they are. (John)."

Disclaimer: I didn't say it!

wow, it is so individual and cool to bash a clothing store...just like 10 other people i know...

uh-huh...

thanks for the heads-up. I'll check out one of their stores for the sale, then check the gear. if it is quality stuff, then it is worth it. I don't really care about the A&F label, but who actually makes the stuff. FYI: there isn't an A&F plant. they, just like most everyone else, goes through a middle man, who buys from factories, or owns factories himself. labels are applied here (prolly in long beach because that is closest to where they come in) and then the stuff is shipped to the stores.

ever had a girl buy dkny jeans? ever wondered why they look shockingly like lee jeans with a different zipper (sometimes) and a different badging? haha

Abercrombie makes some usually quality clothes, and yet they have a bad image and are grossly overpriced at regular price.
Hence....
I only buy Abercrobie when it doesn't say anywhere but the inside tag that its Abercrombie...and its vastly on sale.
I have some great shirts from there that I got for $9.99 doesn't say Abercrappy anywhere....so it can be done

stop bashing abercrombie, it's lame. heh.

geeks goths thugs and punks bash abercrombie.. hmm..

everyone has their style, leave it alone.

EDIT; in terms of quality, abercrombie is some of the best i own. i own abercrombie gap old navy and structure, and out of all of them the a&f clothes is the highest quality. ever stop to compare an old navy shirt to an abercrombie one?

I like Abercrombie except for the fact that they decided that guys didn't need pockets anymore. None of their shorts have normal side pockets, either they're missing entirely or are replaced with cargo pockets, neither of which are too useful.

I went in there last week and noticed that pretty much all of their clothes look like a rottweiler had gotten to them. I thought the grunge look went out a few years ago...?

I like their cargo pants. I've looked at cargo pants at Gap, J Crew, Old Navy and such and they're no comparison. I don't buy too many shirts from them cuz they all look much the same - some kind of plaid, kind of faded / worn look. Haven't noticed there's no side pocket on their shirt though. I guess you're probably right. But then at least they don't stick a stupid logo in place of the pocket like Polo does. I think it's so out of fashion now.

Paying that sort of premium, what else would you expect but at least a little bit better quality?

Was at the Abercrombie at Arden after work today. Picked up some Transformers pants (the ones that turn into shorts too) for under $25. I think the Roseville store had a better selection, definately had a lot more jackets to choose from.

Chinese food makes me sick . . .
