SuperCK ~ lol

POW ~ your answer is already posted in here.... somewhere
(the asus needed 1.7v idle the abit uses only 1.65v for the same overclock)

idle voltage needed 165fsb
P4B533 = 1.70v
BE7 = 1.65v

vcore flux idle to full load
P4B533 = .08v
BE7 = .03v

loaded voltage needed
P4B533 = 1.62v
BE7 = 1.62v

Have you try upping the voltage to see if it helps at 166fsb and 167fsb? or are you going to do that later?

Hell no...thats a fine overclock!!!
I just want to see if more voltage would help, thats all
Why is the vid pin trick not a good idea?....its lets you up the voltage 1.8v but you still can set its down right?

There's a lot I like about that board, esp. the wysiwyg stuff like oc'ing and voltage. Fine board ya got there Thugs. When you compare the two, maybe our conversation about Asus' quality going down actually started with our 845E boards. Ah well, nevermind, onto bigger and better things! Gonna order mine on Wed I think...

Heck I almost got this board on Saturday - dealer was going to order one for me and I said nah (today or none at all). Good thing too Granite Bay boards are just about hitting the streets as we speak so I am going to bypass the PE chipset. Also picking up a NForce2 (A7N8X) as I am at it. This week-end looks like it may be a busy one for me maybe!!.

I know GB is around the corner, but we can't let Thugs have ALL the fun...

Hey Thugs, do you think running Win98SE has anything to do with being forced to use IAA? That's another justification (excuse, hehe) to get this board, I could do some WinXP comparison tests...

Asus has had problems since the CUSL2 815 boards. The Asus 845D was pretty bad, the 845E, quite a bit better.

I don't mean to say that Asus boards are cr@p or anything like it, I love my board. Some of the quirks that we've noticed are kinda weird, like Asus missed some stuff in the design and/or maybe blew off some stuff (which is what I was refering to). I guess all boards have their own little quirks. There's definitely worse boards out there!

DEFINATELY WORSE BOARDS! I had a k7s5a once... <<<shivers at the thought>>>

Evan seemed to like the Asus and even said that the overvolting was gone on the GB board. I hope so. THugs has got me real interested in the Abit line though. I have never had an Abit. I AM SO CONFUSED!!!

Hiya Thugsrook, sorry I missed out on the fun (again)...

It doesn't surprise me too much that 4:5 rocks, you've already proved how important memory timings are... As far as the reviews, I'm not making any decision until I (or you) test it myself.

So whacha think about that IAA thing?

pastorjay, I wouldn't hesitate about an Abit board, they make quality stuff. And that's why I browse the forums more than review sites, better info to eliminate confusion... I'll play with this board, and then look at GB boards when they come out, Asus may come out with a rockin GB board....

I was joking...sort of!

I don't mind trying anything. I have a P4PE right now, but I think it is limiting my o'clock. Thugs has got me a lttle excited about this Abit, so I may give the P4PE the old heave-ho and try the Abit.

By the way, as a side question. As far as overclocking goes, do you all think that a highpoint controller pci card would be any better/worse than the on-baord highpoint raid that is avail on the Abit.

I know Thugs doe not like all that onboard stuff. I don't either other than the raid.

Whacha' think?

on this board using Win98 i HAD to install IAA or the vid drivers wouldnt load ~ weird but nothing to be concerned about. i just woulda liked to test it both ways.

im wouldnt say that Asus sucks or anything like that~
but after 9 month of working on P4Bxxx boards, im glad to be off them

id like to see Evan's voltage readings (idle/load) from his GBay tests to see what the flux is.

anybody notice all the "help me!" threads about the P4PE? uhuh, i still dont trust them

PJ ~ in the past ive had onboard HP100 and a PCI Promise100 RAID.....
i really didnt like either of them.

normally id like to have a 3rd IDE port so i could split my cdroms ~ but the risk of having problems for something so stupid (stupid to me anyways) isnt worth it.

i am a minimalist tho

I can never understand why people get so stuck on one brand. Asus has made some really good boards, and some not so good ones. Same with other brands. When I'm ready to buy a new mobo based on xyz chipset, I look at all of them and pick the best one that is available. I'm running Epox right now. Previous one was Gigabyte, before that Asus, before that Abit. I've had a bunch more such as Soyo, Shuttle, Biostar etc. MSI is one brand I do not like and wont buy another one. I'll be pretty much sticking with Asus, Abit and Epox although the new Albatrons also look pretty good. Abit and Epox consistently have good overclocking features and stability. Asus sometimes has odd quirks that other brands don't have.

I don't care for the promise stuff. I am just wondering if there would be a difference in my o'clock by using the add-on highpoint controller compared to the onboard controller. If I get this Abit board, I ahve theoption to get the one with raid, or I could get hte plain version and just use my existing highpoint controller. What do ya think?

pastorjay, from what I've seen, depending on the on-board chip and also if there's a bios hack for it, pci raid cards perform better than on-board, but then I don't think much of raid anyway. I'm using a P4B533-E at the moment and have extensively tested raid configs. I don't even use it now, if that's any indication of my results. I agree with Thugsrook, I don't like all the on-board stuff, but I use some different stuff too (like usb).

Thugsrook, I'd like to see Evan's readings also. And I've seen those threads, P4PE was never a consideration for me. I'd like to split my stuff also, but my drives work, so why bother...

oldfart, I agree 100%. And I can't stand folks that are so stuck on a brand that they either constantly bagger you or look down at you because you don't have their brand. Whatever. Attempt to get the best you can at the time, if you make a mistake (I love my board but wish I'd bought a P4B533), live with it. Nuff said...

hehe, so does that mean if MSI put out a rockin board, you wouldn't buy it?
