Well... Got this board installed last night. It DOESN'T post at all without the CCMOS jumper in 1-2 position(2-3 to reset). Well, I just took one cap off my BG7 and it booted up.

The board itself seem pretty good tho, but it has the goddamn cold boot problem that about 50% of all Abit P4 motherboards have Don't get me wrong, this is probably very good board if it works like it's supposed to, but Abit quality just never has impressed me :/

Oh? Is it true that 50% of abit boards have cold boot problem? If that's true, I may change my decision....

at what point is this happening?
i havnt had any problems with booting unless i overclock it too far.
try backing off the memory, thats usually the cause of "loss of vid signal".

SOOOooooo, when are you testing it? Looking forward to the results. Not cause I'm gonna buy one, just curious.......

It happens if the comp has been off for a few hours, when I attemp to boot, it just gives me a long beeb. I have to press the reset switch 1-5 times to get it to boot. My BG7 used to have some sort of cold boot issues as well, but I believe they got finally fixed by one Bios release. I'll try reseating the ram later.

Updated the BIOS and reseated the ram. Now it booted up nicely after hour in a cool room. If it boots up next morning without probs, then this issue is probably sorted.

Overall, this board seems quite good oc'er. I got the same 167MHz out of my 2.4B as with my BG7, but the DDR ratios definately gave more performance. DDR444 gives nearly 1000 3Dmarks more than DDR333.

Whohoo! Nice Exec! I am setting mine up a little later today. I am hoping for the same oc as you. What OS are you using? Did you do a fresh install? Any tips or tricks to watch out for? THis is my first Abit, so I want to do it right the first time? I tried to PM you, but am not able to. You do not have it on. Did not know if you knew that.

Thanks,
PJ

Yep, just noticed they were disabled on default

I'm using WinXP at the moment, tried to use the old install, but got a ton of errors so finally I had to do a fresh install. I recommend using software like Drive Image or Norton Ghost always when playing with a new motherboard. I usually take backup of the drive right after installing XP and second one after installing all the drivers.

So far I have installed INF, IAA, Detonators and USB 2.0 driver and seems to work well compared to BG7. OCing was easy to start as I already knew the limits of this CPU, which is around 167-170MHz at +10% voltage.

TenEgg - yeah, the C1 1.8A came out of a Dell 2300 that I ordered for my parents and I swapped it out with my current 1.8A. It's hitting 2.88GHz on the 4G4A+ but I want the better DDR ratios that the BE7 has.

pastorjay - give us the goods when you get it set up!

worst comes to worst you could always wire mod it for a 1.7v default.
i think your boot problems were related to mem / old bios tho.

sometimes it takes upto 10secs to get a vid signal on a cold boot or exiting bios ~ dont freak out

nope ~ no boot problems at all here (upto 165fsb which is correct for this cpu/voltage)

i dont think the board has a boot problem ~ its just being overclocked 1-2fsb too far or mem settings are too aggressive. (Abit boards do not like to boot in an unstable enviroment)

Actually there are quite many cold boot complaints about BE7 at the Abit forums:

http://forum.abit-usa.com/showthread.php?s=f3799689067da600173af13078a6c008&threadid=104

I wish they would have sorted the issue, but problems like this give bad image about quality.

if you are having boot problems just do the 1.7v wire mod... which should give 1.625v default on this board.

(i highly suggest the "U wire" socket mod) linky

Hey all!

Ok, I got my BE7 up and running. Went real smooth. Hate waiting for the 160 gb drive to format. What a pain! Anyways, gotta install a few more things, then I will start the o'clocking. Feels real good so far. Thugs, don't ruin that CPU!!! It needs to go to a hall of fame or something!!!
