I have never been able to get those USB 2.0 drivers to actually install in WinXP. Every time I try, I get the error, "USB 2.0 Driver Update Fail." I am running the CG bios.

I also have something similar to the cold boot problems. I have a HiPix HDTV card. When I bootup, everything looks good until I get to the black WinXP loading screen. After about a second at this screen, the progress bar freezes with the rest of the computer. Hitting reset will put the computer into the same cycle the cold boot people are seeing. I'm wondering if the PCI bus is trying to draw too much power? It is bizzare that it is a real crap shoot. Some times when I turn the computer on, WinXP will load just fine. I'm seeing about 8:1 odds that the loading WinXP screen will lock, though. The CG bios has not fixed this behavior.

I haven't messed with it either, it's disabled on my board. snoog, do you have any v.2 devices? If not just disable it....

I do not currently have an v2.0 USB devices, but one is on the way for Christmas. I will be pretty upset if it is going to require a reinstall of my OS to actually get it to work. That would have to be the worst possible way to force a user to load a driver ever.

No status change on the HiPix card. It still only let's me boot my machine into Windows 1 out of every 8 tries or so. I am getting ready to ship the stupid card back and get a refund.

Other than that, I have my B0 2.4b running @ 155Mhz for 2.79GHz. Ram is running at 206MHz with the 3:4 multiplier. Everything is stable without incident. Prime95 will loop indefinitely, and games are rock stable.

Well, how bout this...just run it at usb 1. Unless it's a device that really req's the speed of usb 2, it'll work fine....

Mikki,

You up for running an external USB 2.0 hard drive with standard USB 1.1 transfer rate speeds? I do not know about you, but that is not my cup of tea. Something is going to have to be done about this USB 2.0 issue. When exactly during the install process do you load the drivers? I was never asked about USB 2.0 during WinXP install.

I haven't been able to install the Abit USB 2.0 drivers either. However, I have an USB 2.0 drive and it's already running at USB 2.0 speeds. I did a clean install with a XP Pro SP1 disc when I got my BE7 and the USB 2.0 drivers were installed with it.

I had no problem installing the usb 2.0. It might be an sp1 thing. I know that at first, these boards were shipping with a patch you had to install before installing the usb 2.0 drivers. Now, I did not have to do that this time though.

Snoog, have you tried updating the USB 2.0 driver from control panel? After you double-click on the driver file and it extracts to the Abit folder, go into control panel and right click on the USB 2.0 listing with the question mark next to it, select update driver, and browse to the Abit folder and file you extracted. That's what I did and it worked like a peach.

I put the BE7 in last night but my girlfriend wouldn't let me stay up to reinstall XP and drivers (she made me an offer I couldn't refuse) so I got up early and started playing. So far, my 1.8A C1 is running totally stable at 2.88 (160 FSB) with XMS3200 512MB (single stick) running 4:5 at DDR400 2-2-2-5. I only bumped vcore to +5% and temps are solid at idle 42 CPU / 35 System. I love this Alpha 8942! I've got a quiet 32CFM fan that's sucking air away from the heatsink and it's doing a great job. I'm going to run some benchmarks at 2.88 and then see what I can get for a max OC. Wish me luck!

About the boot issues - only one warm-boot issue so far after a couple dozen reboots. No cold boot issues at all. The only time I lost video was on a reboot from a DOS prompt during setup when I pressed the reset button. I've probably restarted XP two dozen times with no probs. Have started up from a cold boot three times so far with no issues.

Thanks for all the great info Thugs, PJ, and everyone! I may start a new thread with my OC and benchmark results a little later.

Thanks PJ! I'll work on that a bit today and try to post tonight or tomorrow.

Is anyone else using the Winbond Hardware Doctor that's on the CD? It's pretty handy and seems to be reading correctly.

DoobieOnline, going in and installing the USB 2.0 drivers from the control panel worked like a charm. Thanks for the info. Now if only I could get this stupid HiPix card to work, this new motherboard would be nirvana.

Yeah, no cold boots probs here either. It's a week without a single cold boot prob now, not sure what would have sorted the problem or maybe I'm just lucky.

Settings at the moment:

160MHz FSB(~2900MHz)
HW Strap: High
CPU/DRAM divider: 4:5(DDR400)

Vcore voltage: +5%
DDR voltage: 2.5V

Mikki, I wouldn't but a USB hard drive either. I would, however, buy a mp3 player that had an internal hard drive with a usb 2.0 connector for transfering music.

Hey Thugs, got a question for ya. One setting in bios (at the bottom of the RAM timings) I don't have a clue about is "Differential Current" with available settings of 4X Iref, 6X, 5X, 7X, Default. Mine is set to default because that's the way it was and I didn't want to change it before knowing what it does. Anyone know? Thanks!
