bah!

just do the vdimm mod!!!

2.85 volts = 3.1 volts on my board now!!! yay!

Shimmishim, Do you have any documentation or a link for that. I would like to try that on my IS7, it sucks that only memory voltage is keeping it from going well about 3.4GHz.

I usually watercool my rigs, so that is a great feature since there is very limited airflow in that area when using a waterblock..

I'm not sure this is going to be all that great an overclocker, considering it is based on the IC7-G (which isn't a 'bad' overclocker per se), that doesn't support the settings the top overclocking i865/i875 mobos do (dfi lanparty & asus p4c800e-dlx). The RAM voltage being capped at 2.8V, and the synchronous 255MHz 1:1 max fsb speed come to mind.

I'm hoping to get my eval unit very soon to prove my suspicions, and I'll try to report back.

Essentially the only weak point of IS7/IC7 is that ridiculous range for vdimm. If I can make just 2.9V my processor can break 3.4GHz and the memory would follow at up to 230-240 with more aggressive timings. This way one has to buy 2.6GHz processor. PC 3700 and PC 4000 is not an option for me since the timings are low and the prices are high. And so what? 1:1 is available only up to 266 FSB while the board itself can go easily over 280, some people geting 300.

Hey Cobra, what timings are you running those sticks of ram on? Thanks!

They are running at 2.5/3/3/8

Unbuffered is over 3500 and buffered is over 6400!

Actually, the IC7/G has a 255 fsb limitation @ 1:1! You can use a program like SoftFSB to accomplish higher, but that is more of a nusense (sp?) than anything...

With the right RAM and a quick 20 minute vdimm mod, you can run 285 1:1 at 3.05 volts with ease...

I know I said I was going to do the vdimm mod the other night, but haven't had a chance yet. Hopefully this week I can get around to it

That is 570 MHz on ram. What ram can do that? I am sure nothing better than 3-4-4-8 or worse.
I am doing 283 with 5:4 using GEIL ram and I am breaking Sandra 6,000 on 2.5-3-3-6. I am betting my house I could go 290 easily with just 2.9V but hell Abit does not allow me 2.9V on memory.
