Abit IT7 and USB 2.0

Supposedly Windows Update is the place to find USB 2.0 drivers for the Intel 845e chipset, but it does not add them to the available files list on my system with the Abit IT7 mobo.

I had originally installed some drivers buried way down in the Intel web site that I found through a link on this forum, but they were very buggy.

Has anyone with this board been able to install USB 2.0 drivers from Windows Update?

I've decided to wait for WinXP SP1 which should take care of the problem. The USB works fine in 1.1 mode for me right now.

I did not think Abit offered a driver for the Intel USB hardware. The web link that comes with the driver CD still states that it is not available yet (and to be patient).

Yes, you are right. I thought it was not available either. If you look on the far left side of the window, you'll
see some links for other drivers.
You have to click on the link on the far left side of the window. The link is for USB 2.0 driver.

it installed fine for me, with win2K.

Are you talking about the ICH4 usb 2.0 drivers, or the via usb 2.0 drivers?

They offer the via usb 2.0 drivers, however not the ICH4 usb 2.0 drivers (which I believe you may be talking about).

i had a similar problem with the ABIT IT7 USB 2.0 - when I plugged in high speed USB devices i would get a message like

"HI-SPEED USB Device Plugged into non-HI-SPEED USB Hub. A HI-SPEED USB device is plugged into a non-HI-SPEED USB hub"

Please note: I get this on Windows XP when I plug in high speed USB devices like my external 24x CDRW - I do not get this error for slow USB devices like Keyboard, Mouse or Printer. You may not get the error message until you try some high speed devices.

The ABIT Install CD has a pointer to an old webpage asking to wait for an update on the Intel USB Drivers.

So I called ABIT to see if they had an update and their Tech Support guy sent me a URL to the latest driver. Check it out at:

OK - I went home and installed the USB 2.0 drivers from Intel website (see previous post)

Solved all my USB problems. The driver installed fine, shows as working in Device Manager and I dont get the errors I used to.

Well, that just sucks! I wonder why you don't have to do this with XP?

I'll just wait till it's posted on Abits' website (I'm not sure I need it?).
