hi,i have an abit kt7 raid board with 800mhz athlon...
i have an sblive mp3 card and ati radeon 32mb ddr video
card...i am not overclocking the cpu.

i am having the common problem of
the sblive (mp3+) card not working with the abit kt7 raid board...i have tried numerous things to try to get this to work...for example, disabling the ata100 controller, disabling sb16 emulation, installing new drivers...dorking with voltages, trying different pci slots...setting the pnp/pci irq5 to legacy isa.....none of which have worked...
the issue i have is win98 se hangs anywhere from 1-20 minutes after i load....does anyone have any suggestions?

thanks

Sounds like a heat related issue to me. What sort of fan are you using? You can always try reseating the heatsink. A friend of mine had a similar problem. I reseated the heatsink with some new thermal paste and problems went away.

i was running the sblive platinum 5.1 and regular kt7 mb for a few weeks without any wierd crashes like that after setup and some irqs were actually being shared.

recently and only 2 weeks after setup and 2 weeks of NO crashes even when overclocking cpu, i started to get the shutdown problem and not booting up so assumed pencil on bridges was bad, so I yanked it and tried the defogger kit but it ain't working.

anyways Im dumping the kt7 board and ordered the msi one cause this thing has given me more headaches than any motherboard i have ever seen.

but once I did have it up I was totally trouble free that I could see. only wierd thing I ever noticed is constant crashes in everquest but none of my other games or benchmarking software.

Your problem is not a compatibility problem because I have the exact same motherboard and sound card. The difference is that I am running dual boot Win ME and Win 2000 both of which installed with no problems. My suggestion would be to see if you could use a copy of 2000 and see if it installs without a hitch, if it does then it may be a win 98se problem. Otherwise it could be the combination of cards you have in there. Here is my configuration:

Abit KT7 Raid
AMD Athlon 900 MHz
512MB PC133 SDRAM Cas2
2 40GB WD 7200 RPM Drives RAID 0
Geforce2 GTS 64MB DDR SDRAM Video Card
Netgear PCI 10/100 Ethernet Card
Sound Blaster Live MP3+
Kenwood 72x CD-ROM
Plextor 32x12x10x CD-RW

Hope this helps

One other thing, did you try installing Win98 without the SBLive in the machine and then adding it after you install the VIA 4in1? Just a thought, maybe getting past the installation process and then doing the 4in1 might get you past your problem.

Take care and good luck.

hi, i tried it both ways....i installed win98se....added
the new 4_1 drivers...and later set up the sound card...this
did not work....afterwards i left the sound card in when
i reloaded win98se.....do you think my problem could
directx related? i did not load directx 7.0a....in fact
i am not sure what directx version comes with win98se

I had the same prob I think. Installed the Liveware software and got blue screens on startup. Also had the same prob with the Liveware software installed and then trying to install the Highpoint drivers. Just didn't install the the Liveware and everything is fine.
