people who are anti-porn shouldn't be against all porn. i fail to see how legitimate porn (like vivid) exploits any women. it's not like the women are being forced to participate. if you don't like it, don't watch, but don't pull that objectification junk... i watch a crapload of porn but i don't objectify women. i'm sorry, but i don't buy that excuse to get rid of porn.

because we now have birth control and you can have sex without having children. that's why so many religious people dislike birth control, because it's causing society to view sex as less sacred as it was before.

it's not hypocrisy. sex / porn does not equal babies. there is a difference between believing that an embryo is a human life (and that human life is sacred), and believing that casual sex and porn is somehow wrong. if the porn and sex resulted in babies, then i can see where you have a problem. i have a problem with people pumping out kids like there's no tomorrow. but i doubt very many mainstream pornstars get knocked up as a result of their jobs. and people that have a problem with casual sex because of babies, should have a problem with casual sex without birth control. there is no reason to have a problem against responsible people having casual sex.

stds are irrelevant... and you're right, i have never studied porn, but i'd like to see the details of such research.

but i still think your argument is flawed. using your logic, anal porn and bukkake is fine, but straight porn isn't. i still say it's an issue of birth control. and you didn't address the casual sex part.

My argument is not that complicated.

Hypocrites are people who will whine about women being able to have abortions (a consequence of sex) but want to be free to jack off and spill sperm (every sperm is sacred! Every sperm is great! If a sperm is wasted, God gets quite IRATE! LOL!!!!!!!) without being told they are being naughty.

Basically, the laws are the way they are because you can't make MORALITY a law.

To answer the original question, it's because of the special-interest lobbyiests in Washington pushing for womens rights. That's the reason it's law, how they concluded that is beyond me.
