what are you using the machine for and have you already bought any parts?

dump the 36GB raptor and get a 74GB
get a native 24pin psu
do you really want to go that chip when the x2 amds will be reasonable in probably 6mos?

Do you need it RIGHT now?

I don't know if I would drop 350-400 into an x850 considering the G70 is RIGHT around the corner..

Might be worth it to wait another week or too..

just making sure, not too long ago some person came on here and asked the same question and after we all critiqued it, he got pissed because it was already sitting in his basement...

Nice rig!

I also agree with replacing the 36GB Raptor with a 74GB.

doesn't the Modstream 520W have the 24pin connector?

I believe retailers are supposed to see them around the 21st when its actually announced..

I am always in threads yelling, " Don't wait, you can wait forever" but sometimes there is a good time to wait..

This might be one of those time.s

will the G70 blow away the x850 and is it worth the new pricetag instead of buying another gfx card in a year or 2

I agree with waiting to get the G70. That X850 isn't worth the price when you can get something much better from the nextgen stuff coming out in about a week from now. I really think you'll regret it BIGTIME. I too am buying a new rig similar to yours but I'm waiting until the first week of July.

awesome monkey, thanks... i really think going from a geforce ti4200 to a x850plat will be a great upgrade for me, waitng another month and spending an extra 200 dollars to get the next card i dont think will make a big difference at this point... saving that 200 dollars and watching the gfx market, i can always get a new card in a year or so if it not up to mark.

No one can really comment on exact performance increases using the nextgen cards yet but word is it's supposed to be pretty significant. Review sites should be showing off real benchmarks within 2 weeks and even if after the benchmarks come out you find that it isn't worth it, you should save some cash from price drops on current gen stuff. It's your money but you're nuts not to wait a little over a week more.

Get a 3700+ sand diego. The price difference beetween the 3700 and 4000 is absurb compared to the performance gain.
