Did you read that? In the first line, he describes it as a "buzz", not hallucination. The rest of the entry is him talking about mixing wormwood and vodka, and that isn't absinthe

Ok OK Ok , I didn't mean to start a big debate but some of the info that has came is at least interesting. I do admit that I have quite a different buzz but am definitely not seeing any green fairies. Anyways , HAPPY NEW YEARS! drive safe if you're out and about.

I've got two bottles that I picked up in Germany. One is 55%, one is 72%. You will not trip, you will not see green fairies, and hopefully you won't make out with your sister.

That said, it did "feel" like a different drunk but in the end, I blacked out just like you would from drinking too much of anything.

I did notice that I got EXTREMELY hungry.

I'm not sure about the "real" vs "fake" argument but Taboo is my favorte brand of absinthe. Tastes great though the price is somewhat high. Picked up a bottle at the distillery in BC over a year ago on the way back to Seattle from Revelstoke, was well worth the side trip.

I'm down in the Seattle area so I'm close but I still manage to only get up there every so often. Though I'm trying to make a habit of going more regularly. I find the landscape beautiful (not all that different from W WA, which is by no means a bad thing), the people nice, the food great, and the skiing awesome. I'm looking forward to my annual Whistler trip in March, missed it this year (2010) due to some traveling abroad.

My cousin tried it and claims it messed him up pretty bad. Something to do with the chemical thujone, which is present in the wormwood used to make the drink. Some people claim it has similar effects to THC. However, there's no evidence linking that. Though lethal in high doses, most companies heavily regulate the amount of thujone allowed.

How were you drinking it? Traditionally, with the special glass and dripped over sugar/etc? my first time we did it traditional like that but it seemed really unnecessary for uncultured americans, so we ended up just drinking shots

Thujone is not a big deal. You know what else has lots of thujone besides Wormwood? Sage. When was the last time you got high from eating sage flavored stuffing.

Absinthe is just a great tasting anise and herb flavored drink. Well at least if you get the good stuff. I like Jade Absinthe.

Absinthe does prove one thing, that politicians, governments, and regulatory agencies are complete idiots. Wormwood was banned because it had thujone, yet sage is considered safe even with comparable levels of thujone. So thujone from Wormwood was evil, but thujone from sage was good. Now how scientific is that?
