Up here? We brush the snow off the car, shovel the mound at the end of the driveway from the plow driving by, and head to work. 12" or more & we'd probably close schools for 1 day. But, by 10 or 11am, pretty much everyone would be out & about. We have a couple of snow days to use & it's been a fairly mild winter, otherwise they'd make the call based on whether or not the plows would get through at least once before the buses went out.
In Montreal they actually pick the stuff up and haul it off to melt it. I was fascinated when I saw how they do this when I was visting my wife there before we were married. They have a line of dump trucks behind this Rube Goldberg looking contraption that sucks up the snow and dumps it into the trailing dump trucks through a big chute. When the truck is full off it goes and the next moves up under the chute.
This model from ~4AM this morning shows 30"+ for DC/Baltimore

I see people freaking out about 20 inches of snow.
That would be enough to close rural schools here maybe and i would be expected to be at work on time that day. As far as MI not getting enough snow this year. Come over by the big lake and its a different story.
Just a little snow, buy a case of beer, sit on your but and watch the super bowl.
Wow, you're an awesome human being, and I really hope your entire family deserves more than they're getting, as it really shows. Stay classy MD!
And sarcasm is a bitch, not everyone can detect it, only the brightest of the bright. Or, possession of a bit of gray matters.
we need an update, how many of us are going to get blizzarded
i didn't watch the morning news, but still looks like it'll stay mostly south/east of me
Where's your area of Ohio?
Need to know if I should go buy a shovel tonight; my last one snapped in half.
Well, I live in WV as well. If they close the road, I usually get my ATV, hook up the sled, take the kids up on the mountain, build a fire, sled all day and drink beer while laughing at the kids falling in the snow, and getting hit with snow and ice balls. Come home, and depending on if I have electricity, I usually get in the hot tub, or take a shower and pass out.
THIS STORM HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE SIMILAR TO THE DECEMBER 19TH
STORM. PLAN FOR SUBSTANTIAL DISRUPTIONS TO TRAVEL FRIDAY
AFTERNOON THROUGH THE WEEKEND.
That wasn't 30 inches

i was planning on driving down to MD cause i got some work to do. i wonder just how boned i will end up being.
We'll likely get two flakes (central NJ)
Driving when? If it's between Noon tomorrow and Midnight on Sunday morning, there's no chance in hell. Actually, I'll bet roads are shut down into Monday.
My roommate was going to go back home to the D.C. area this weekend... looks like that isn't happening though.
Looks like I'm staying in and playing Xbox all weekend. Luckily I've got like ~17 beers and a decent amount of food. Might rent a game or something, who knows.
