AC97 Scratchy sounds

I really need some help with this one. When ever I run a 3D intesive app either game or even a wed site my AC97 on board sound becomes really scratchy whenever I scroll/move my mouse. Rebooting use to fix it, but now it does it all the time. I've installed updated drivers, updated bios, formated win XP pro, went to a Microsoft opti mouse had a Lodgitec mouse,swaped speakers, and have done all XP pro updates. I even tired setting mobo to fail safe and optimum settings, to see if that would make a differance. Does anybody have a fix for this, or know of a driver that works with Win XP pro? I havnt tried changing O/S's yet, but thats going to be my next step. Any ways thanks ahead of time for any sugestions.

The main problem with AC97 sound is its software not hardware...

Result... problems...

Answer... Get sound card...

Yes I figured that would be the case. Theres got to be somthing out there that would make this thing work. I mean for onboard sound it sounds pretty good, Just have to find a driver that works for it. Does any body know if you have the same issuses with other o/s's like Win 2k or win 98? I wonder if you could try to install a generic codec? hmmm I dont know, looks like I'm going to start having to research sound cards. Thanks for the help

You'll probably have to invest in a PCI sound card for best results.

I disabled ACPI in XP this afternoon. Heard from someone that they had done that and it had worked for them. Well it didnt work for me, a new pci card is starting to sound pretty good

Software based devices like on board sound, AMR Modems, HSP PCI Modems heavily rely on the CPU to do the work for them, when the CPU is busy doing other stuff it can't provide as much bandwith to the AC97 Soundcard so it's performence degrades. A moderately priced soundcard is not so lazy like the AC97 as actually does a lot of the work itself!

i had the same problem, though it was all the time, not just in 3d games. I ended up going to an SB Live, works very well, then i sold it, and i'm having more sound trouble, geh! Good luck getting a shweet card
