Acer laptop xp os

My friend has an Acer laptop that's 6 years old and in need of a reformat. However, he's lost the discs. Can I use my oem disc w/his key/registration number to reformat his machine?

As long as the version's the same, and yours is generic, it should work. I don't think Dell works on Acer, but I'm not 100% sure of that.

You won't know without trying, finding which keys work with which XP discs can be a huge PITA.

OK, thanks. I'll give it a try. I've got 2 generic oem 32 bit versions of xp, home and pro, and a 64 bit pro. Something should work. He's running xp home.

As you're obviously not pirating the thing, just get the version right (and make sure not to use the 64-bit lol), and even if it doesn't activate online, you can call and have them manually activate over the phone. I've never had them deny me when helping with reloads like that.
