It's a sad story, yes. But it is by no means a brave act. It's naive and stupid at best. If you're being robbed, you're obviously being put in a situation where people are irrational and desperate. And then you go and provoke them. Is your life really worth a snide remark? I mean what could she have possibly thought her comment would've done besides piss these guys off.

OK. So you have a gun.

You're confronted by 4 or 5 men with guns who want your gun and your wallet.

What are you going to do?

Well if I was confronted then yeah obiviously I would give up. But with my suspicious attitude, I would have confronted the men first before they stepped any closer. I always check out my surroundings and to see if anything is not normal. Second of all, I would have never been inside a bar in the Lower East Side and out in the streets in the wee hours. That was a bad decision to begin with. I'm never out in the streets that late.

Yea, you would've gone out of your way to confront 4-5 suspicious men. How far are these guys away that you'd go and confront them. And before they could do anything, you'd pull out, let me guess, your Desert Eagle and start firing. Forget the perimeter they would've probably setup around you where you'd have your back facing them.

How many times have you been held up that you're so sure you'd react like that in the situation?

No sh!t, not exactly the right time to be an e-badass.

When is the right time.

Excuse my rant for the moment. But people die every day. Lots of people. Putting one death over another because of who they are in hollywood is stupid. If any death should be on the news, it should be of heroes. This woman died because her purse meant more to her than her life. It may sound cruel, but I can't cry if someone goes down like that. You people make your darwin threads and laugh at those people, how is this any different? You can feel sorry for the fiance, but the woman... As was already said, she practically asked to be shot. Some people just don't get life.

I've never been held up before so I can't say I'll react like that. However, with my suspicious attitude, I would have never been out in the streets that late to begin with. I always have a "what if" type of attitude. What if I get mugged in the streets? Answer? Dont be in the streets to begin with.

So then you agree, with us. She should not have confronted them.

She obviously wasn't a New Yorker. People from out of state come here, hang out at the trendiest spots, and think all of the city is like that. They get comfortable, too comfortable. When you're in a defenseless situation like that, STFU.

A better way to put it is: "Hey, I'm a big-shot important actress-writer. You better just go away back to your pathetic lives so we can continue to do important big-shot stuff."

Like I said, you don't taunt robbers. Regardless if they have guns of not. Especially when their was 4-5 of them. They could have just beat her to death just as easily.

According to the FBI, the cops have a 64% chance of finding her killer.

If I kick a lion in the face, who are you going to call an idiot?
The people who make fun of you and criticize you for trying to defend yourself.
"Defending myself" would involve handing over my purse.

anyway

You're comparing physically assualting an animal with no capacity for rational thought to saying something to a person?

That's like saying that if I go swimming in front of you, I should expect to be eaten, because if you were a shark, then you would eat me.

Nevermind that in this case, the "lion" was already trying to eat you when you kicked it.

If an armed man comes up to me and demands my wallet I'm going to assume that he's no different and no less dangerous than a hungry lion. I'd say that's a good general rule to follow in this situation and the one that will least likely result in my death.

It doesn't matter the situation. If you are confronted with 4 armed robbers, you don't taunt them! Sheesh!

I feel badly for her fiancee.

So if your mon was raped by three thugs it would be ok for me to say "well she asked for it. She shouldn't have dressed as sluty as she did!"

The full blame should be put on the criminal and not the victim.

I don't think anyone here is blaming the victim. We are just questioning her judgement.

The only people at fault are the scums who robbed and killed her. She certainly didn't provoke them to do it in the first place. Put it simply, I really can't believe some of the "she got it coming to her" attitudes that are expressed from the replies here.

I'm sorry, but more than likely this woman would still be alive today if she wasn't so fvcking stupid. True it was the killer who pulled the trigger, but it probably would've never happened if she just kept her mouth shut.

The actual events that happened, and your hypothetical situation have nothing in common.

A closer analogy would be three thugs started hitting on my mom, and then she said "What are you going to do? Rape me?"

An even closer analogy would be the thugs started groping her and violating her, and then her saying that.
