Add SATA Harddrive

I have a recent build which is using a WD 250G SATA/300 with 16mb cache. I would like to buy a smaller and cheaper HD with SATA/150 and use it as a dual boot drive for Linux. If I install the second drive in another SATA port or make it a slave to the current drive will it degrade the speed of all HDDs to the lowest denominator 150g/s ?
