Hang in there, darlin...remember, as I've told you numerous times...give Red a swift kick to the junk...it's therapeutic!

You know, I could probably start a Kickstarter offering tickets to kick Red in the junk but ... the man handles my groceries so it won't be happening

Sounds like the place for a swift peck on the cheek.
Glad to hear you are doing well.

Round 22 is in the bag! Despite the various side effects I have had, my Onc feels I have tolerated this drug quite well & she informed me yesterday that I have the distinction of being on Opdivo the longest of people on her service. We spoke about the what ifs of possible progression and she feels I would be a great candidate for combo immunotherapy trials should the need arise.

Oh here's my Onc - http://www.dfhcc.harvard.edu/insider/member-detail/member/anna-farago-md-phd/

At any rate another spring is here & so am I

I can't relate how happy I am to hear you've done so well on nivolumab. It is incredibly encouraging for the future of cancer management. You are the embodiment of the hope that in the future we can manage cancer as a chronic disease rather than simply prolonging a death sentence. Hopefully the research funding continues (and increases) so that we can better understand and manage this spectrum of disease.

Opdivo has been a godsend! My Onc informs me that new combo drug immunotherapy trials are starting regularly now & that I have proven to be made of strong enough stuff so I can hopefully get into one when the time comes!

I remember being afraid prior to getting my first infusion and a chemo nurse telling me about a woman who had been on an Oodivo trial for over two years and doing well. It makes me happy to know that my Onc can offer my story as hope to new patients receiving this treatment!

A quick update! I had a bit of a scare, a right subaxillary lymph node increased in size to 1.6CM, they did a biopsy on May 9th which showed mostly normal lymph node with rare cancer cells that were similar to my original biopsy. Given the time line of the progression my Onc felt we were seeing the drug in action, helping my immune system fight the cancer.

Flash forward, I had CT scans on Tuesday, that node is down to 1.2 CM, a cervical node went from 8mm to 5mm. The right super clavical node which started out as a 4.3 cm mass is gone, no evidence that it is returning. Btw, I read the original scans about that mass, they wanted to radiate but couldn't as it was wrapped around my juggler vein! Chemo didn't touch that node so Opdivo literally ate the entire tumor.

We did the happy dance in my Onc's office, I even got a hug And had infusion number 30 today!

Side effects? Oh yeah, hypothyroidism, mouth sores, fatigue, joint pain but it sure beats chemo. I have been on Opdivo for exactly 14 months today!

There should be cake & balloons

Btw, hopefully none of you will ever experience a biopsy in your armpit, what a day that was, the needles were LONG & 18 gauge. I cheerfully accepted an Ativan!

 My best friend's father has been on nivolumab for probably 7 months now, and is doing similarly well. It's heart warming to see how well "responders" do. Could not be more happy for you.

Hey Jean! To pass the time while the meds kick your cancer's ass, why don't you treat the boys to a tale or two about your pre-Red, pool sharking days?

I had eleven in my thyroid, which I think is less painful, over three sessions, IIRC. Worse thing about needle biopsies are how long they take. It's like someone saying "Okay, I'm going to stab you with this very long hollow knitting needle. But I'm gonna stab you slow, and I need to you to remain perfectly still while I do it. Then I'm going to do it again, and then again. And after that, I'll send you a big bill."

Still beats cancer.
