Adobe Reader 8 released

I'm still using Reader 4.0 and OmniPage Lite for writing.

I like 8 more then 7. The main buttons and toolbars are simpler and take up less space.
It also handles old view settings, so I don't need to resize the window and the content for every file and test seems much cleaner for 6 and 7 x. More like 5x simplicity and clarity (at least at proper zoom).

I don't like the added buttons on the navigation pane and the especially the grey color, but they are not to bad.

I love foxit.
It's sooooo much faster then Adobe Reader, although I haven't tried 8 yet.

I want google to come up with a new competing and free format, that ought to clean adobe up or go belly up altogether. just look at what google did to web email and payment service, it made them better

This guy has some good tips. Adobe 7 starts up in about 1 second now.

FYI - version 8 supports hardware accelerated rendering. That's why the windows are so zippy now.

Wow, no wonder. I just installed it and it is much faster then the old versions (even with the "pre-load" disabled).

Is the IE zombie still present? Open a pdf directly in IE, close it and see if AcroRd32.exe is still running. Been present since at least 6.0, maybe even earlier.

I work for a Fortune 500 corp and our desktops have 256MB of RAM. We need IE for a lot of web and intranet apps. So, would you mind answering the question? Thanks.

I just checked on my system here (XP Pro SP2, IE 7, Reader 8). About 10-15 seconds after the IEXPLORE.EXE process ends, ACRORD32.EXE terminates as well.

I am thinking of switching to foxit myself--but that brings up another question---namely what about macromedia player---which is some sort of an adobe addon brainfart--with anything below ver 9 identifiedas a security hole by Sedonia---but just spent a frustrating afternoon on dial up updating various media players with security holes in them---with maromedia player less than version 9 taking the cake in removal after update difficulty.

But when it comes to various competing media players--they can somewhat be regarded as necesary evils--and if you don't have the right player installed--you can't use the file.

So what pray tell happens to macromedia player if I go with foxit and give adobe the old heave ho?
