I have a Soyo Dragon+ (VIA KT266A chipset) mainboard with 3*IBM GXP120, ASUS 4012A CDRW, LiteOn 48126S CDRW and a Pioneer 106S DVD-ROM.
All my drivers are up to date.
2 of my IBM Harddrives is connected to my onboard Promise Fasttrack 100 RAID controler. I wanna boot from the 3rd IBM HD so that I can bechmark diffrent stipe/cluster sizes on my RAID without reinstalling windows.
So I would like to know how I should connect/jumper the 3rd HD, my 2 burners and the DVD. I just discovered that when my ASUS burner is configured as slave it use 60-100% of my total CPU power (I have an XP 2000+ and all my Atapi devices run in U-dma mode) Is that normal?
My DVD-ROM (Pioneer 106S) doesnt like the slave mode either, as slave it generate read errors (i tried PIO mode and the read errors disapeard but the performance hit was huge). When running as master the DVD is very reliable
When the burners are both configured as Master i can burn 2 CDRs at once with no problems, but when the ASUS CDRW is configured as slave on my DVD-ROM it use all my CPU power and the Smart-Burn feature steps in.
I havent tried configuring the LiteOn CDRW as slave on my DVD-ROM yet but I fear that it will perform like the ASUS CDRW...
Is there anything I can do about this or do i just have to run my DVD-ROM in PIO mode to be able to burn 2 CDRs at once?
