Advice On Monitors & Resolution

Hey everybody I have a few questions regarding current technology in today's monitors.

I have only been gaming on one monitor with a resolution of 1920x1200 @60hz refresh rate. My question is in your honest opinion can anybody tell if there is a difference in terms of quality when moving up to a 2560x1600 monitor.

My second question is lately I have noticed monitors coming at 120hz, is this due to lag improvement or does this improve picture quality.

If your GPU and the games you want to play can support it, 2560x1600 or 2560x1440 both look great. They look especially nice on IPS panels, but those only support 60hz refresh right now.

I don't know that 120hz affects input lag, but it does reduce motion blur and choppiness. If you can push over 60fps, a 120hz monitor should make gaming feel even more smooth.

Personally, I'd rather play at 60hz on an IPS panel than 120hz on a TN, but that decision is a matter of personal preference informed by your hardware, and what sorts of games you enjoy.

Do you know anyone that has a large monitor, or can you check one out at a brick and mortar store? For me that's the only way to settle questions like this.

Gaming on a 30" monitor is awesome. Not so much for the resolution, as the DPI is about the same as a 24" 1920x1200. Instead, it's because the monitor takes up so much more of your peripheral vision that it makes the games more immersive. That being said, a huge monitor can actually be a detriment to competitive gameplay because it is harder to see everything that's going on at once.
