I've always built my own computers, but have been out of the game for a while.

last build was an athlon 64 3000+ its been a while...
I just put together a e7200/p5q combo and have it up and running with the stock intel heatsink&fan.

Who designed the stupid push pin system for installing the heatsink? this is one of the worst systems I have ever seen. I managed to screw it up and broke one of the 4 plastic push things which is now stuck in my mobo...I think I am going to have to cut it off from the underside if that makes sense.

not to mention the push pin system is causing my mobo to bend

system is running a little hot, but its running...one core idle at 40...the other idle at 56...the hotter one might not have a very good connection with the heatsink

sooo
I need a new heatsink and fan that will fit in a p5q...the intel heatsink barely fits in the space so I need one that fill fit for sure

also...if possible...NO STUPID PUSH PINS...I want screws baby

and as I'm not going to overclock this very much, I'd like to not spend too much on it

any suggestions?

thanks

I also freaking hate those pushpins. They suck. They bend the damned motherboard a bit when installed. Just a crap design.

^^ Awesome cheap cooler. I had an E6400 @ 3.3Ghz running icy with one of those. My ex has that pc though, still running perfect, and I'm back in the stone age with an X2-4800+ lol. But Rosewill coolers are very nice!

The cheapest you can do is just to buy this (you'll need to break off or remove the three remaining pushpins to use it).

The push pins are an upgrade from the stupid system before it, thats for sure.

Id rather "bend the motherboard a little" than have to apply 70lbs of force to a metal spring thats 3mm wide.

I believe you can remove the pushpins from the Freezer 7 and subsequently use the bolt-thru kit that Amberclad rightly suggested going for.

Yes, but I'd rather use the screwdriver that I used for the rest of the computer instead of applying 70 pounds of force to a pin 3mm wide.

The latch that AMD still uses is still better than pushpins. The socket 478 cooling system was somewhat more complex, but worked pretty well. Both designs do not put undue pressure on the mainboard, causing it to flex like the pushpin design.

The bottom-side receiving backplane + bolt-through design is the best option, the only drawback being mainboard removal for replacing with anything that doesn't line up exactly (thread/depth/etc) with the previous backplane.

ALL of the most respected S775 coolers use this design.

The ASUS V-60 Vapo Bearing has worked very well with
Intel E8400 workstations that we have built for friends
(45nm technology, hence less waste heat than the Prescott):

We prefer these on ASUS motherboards, because there are no
clearance issues with this combination e.g. no space conflicts with
120mm fans mounted in the top panel.

And, being symmetric, you can direct its exhaust air
either towards the rear panel, or straight up.

However, if you want to OC, you might be better
off with more heat pipes.
