Advice on overclocking my E6600

Hi guys I am sorry if this have been asked before.
I am currently running all my system at stock speed.
E6600 @ 2.4
OCZ platinum DDR2-800 Rev.2 @ 4-4-4-15
ASUS P5W DH deluxe is my motherboard.

What Im thinking of doing is increase the FSB to 333, multiplier at 9 so would give me 3.0Ghz.
Do I need to increase the vcore voltage?
And what should I do with the NB, SB and FSB voltage.
I am very new to overclockin so be gentle ^_^

And last thing is there any general rule between the increase of voltage and FSB to increase the cpu speed?

best advice I can give for now. The search function can really do wonders. I think apoxxy also wrote a guide about overclocking c2d's. As you said, it's been asked before, it's been done before, it's been explained before, use the search function, so we don't have to explain it again If you run into trouble with a guide, then it's the right time to ask questions.

One thing worth trying is just setting your multi to 9, fsb to 333, and see if it boots, stresstest it with orthos, watch your temps, don't let them go above 60c, and it all works fine, then you've got yourself a nice overclock. With some luck it will do all this on stock voltages.

I have a very similar setup to Matego, with the same CPU, RAM, and a P5B-E. I tried overclocking this morning for the first time using the guide that MarcVenice linked to and another similar one on the Tom's Hardware Forums. I overclocked to 3ghz stable for a 2 hour Orthos blend test. Since the memory is at a 1:1 ratio, it's running at 667mhz, even though it's rated for 800mhz. Would it be better to keep this ratio or to change it to its default speed?

You won't notice any difference in real world applications. I think there are similar opinions on this though. You could also tighten the timings since it's running below stock speeds. But that won't net you much if any performance either. In the end, I'd say it doesn't matter.

I did what you guys told me
I increase the fsb to 333 so 333*9 = 3Ghz
Leaving all the voltage at stock.

It boots up and I ran orthos for a while, max temp is around 43C since its winter here.

I saw people can get 3.4 from their E6600, any huge difference in performance between 3.0 and 3.4?

No, nothing huge, if you want to hit 3,4ghz though, theres a big chance you will need to increase the vcore as well as the northbridge voltages as well as other things. Since it's winter at your place, your temps will go up during the summer. Right now your temps are looking very good, and probably won't go into the danger zone in the summer, unless temps go up with 20c in your room

But, I doubt the hassle, and the extra risk, is worth the extra 400mhz, in fact, it's not even gauranteed your cpu will do 3.4ghz, but might top out at 3.2ghz instead, which definately isn't worth it over 3ghz, when everything runs at stock voltages

Stock or AUTO isn't really "STOCK"

Run you motherboard's utility or CPU-Z / Speedfan to see how much voltage your CPU is using during Orthos @ 3.0ghz.

If it is 1.288V then it is "stock".

You could try setting your CPU to 1.35V manually and then setting the FSB to 375, RAM @ 750mhz!

C1E, Speedstep, Thermal Control, and anything throttle / spectrum disabled!

Test it!
