Advice On Reward Money...

OK, so I moved to Seattle about a month ago and a few days after my bike was stolen from my parking garage. I posted it on a few stolen bike registry sites, and it turns out that someone has found it and emailed me. The bike is worth abput $400 new, but how much should I offer the person who found it as a reward? I've never been in a situation like this, but the person hasn't asked for anything yet. Do I even give a monetary reward, or just thank them gracefully? I still haven't seen what condition the bike is in, but they tell me it looks "good". Any suggestions???

Did the person buy it, or just locate it for you? You should reimburse any out-of-pocket expenses the person incurred. Above that, whatever you want/can afford to do. Think about what the bike is worth to you, what you would have paid to get it back, and go from there.

If you didn't post that there was a reward, you aren't obligated to give one. Depending on the person, they may or may not expect one.

Perhaps take them out to eat?

If you feel that you should give money, I would say no less than $20 and no more than $50, depending on your finacial situation and what the bike is worth to you, and how much trouble the other person had to go to to get the bike and then get it to you.

Just my opinion.
