Advice on upgrade of old pc

Hi again
I have been given an old "broken" pc, which I have now got working by getting a new AGP graphics card for £16..lol. I am intrigued to see how quick I can get it to run. It currently has an Intel P4 1.8GHz socket 478. The mobo is an MSI 6398(845 Ultra AR), with a max listed bus speed of 400mhz, would a P4 3.0GHz 800Mhz bus cpu be compatible with this board.

You will have to be careful of exactly what chip you get, as there are Pentium 4 CPUs with 400,533 and 800MHz bus. If you get one for 800MHz bus and your board only supports 400MHz bus maximum, the chip may run, but only at 1.5GHz.

You can get old Pentium 4 chips for next to nothing on eBay - just make sure what you're getting looks right - the list on Wikipedia is quite useful. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Pentium_4_microprocessors

As for whether it's worth doing, that depends on if you have a use for the thing. A Pentium 4 is somewhat slow these days - even some "normal" webpages can be quite taxing on them - long Wikipedia pages, Facebook . . .it can generate some frustating waiting times.
