Advice please! Better settings?

After days of testing I've settled upon 2 stable settings (w/ conservative settings) for my computer, but keep having mood swings as to which one is "better"

2.4C OCed to 2.76
1:1
3-4-4-8

2.4C OCed to 3.0
5:4
2.5-3-3-6


After reading the massive thread on sync vs async, I don't know which one is better...Would the tight timings make up for the "unmeasurable latencies" caused by the 5:4?

The 2.4C @ 3gig will be faster at everything you do except memory benchmarks. Toms just had a very good article about the new DDR 500 memory and the advantages of the higher FSB.

Well, I'm not so concerned about benchmarks as I am w/ the "unmeasurable latencies"...... frankly I have no idea what that means and what that translates into in terms of real world performance. I don't do too many things CPU intensive but I want my comp to be very responsive

I realize that the lax timings of 3-4-4-8 isn't very relevant as TomsHardware's article and Corsair's article have been pushing. But:

"But, as impressively supported by our benchmarks, simultaneously raising both FSB and memory clock speed makes the most sense by far." -Tomshardware

is saying to keep it at a 1:1 ratio....which is why I'm very hesitant to push it to 3Ghz

Here you go! Abit IS7 and OCZ PC3500EL Have benchies for the IC7-G and OCZ PC3700 Gold but they show the same thing. Also I run DC Folding@home and my times are much shorter with the higher FSB since it is CPU intensive. Not to mention decoding is faster as well.

Just out of curiousity, Which M/B and memory type are you using? Did you have to up the voltage settings for the CPU or memory? Also, do you have the equivalent of "Performance Mode" or "Memory Acceleration Mode" enabled (ASUS M/B options)?

i vote for the higher proc speed and tighter mem timings even if it isn't in sync
