So...you have a job that requires you to fly and you missed a flight without warning because you're afraid of flying? That's just plain inability to do your job.

so you pretty much costed them a plane ticket.. how long before the date of the flight did you call?

I didn't cost them a dime. Once I knew this guy was a problem, I gave him the entire cost of my flight out of my own money to avoid any hastle.

I then re-booked the same ticket, a simple $150 dollar fee, when I was ready to go.

They paid the actual ticket price as they do for everyone in the company. Fortuneately for me, it was $200 dollars cheaper this month to get out there than it was in May, so I actually got away with $50 bucks.

well that's good that you paid for it.. but you still incovenienced the shit out of them.

They didn't tell me I'd be flying when I got hired to boot, how about that???

I'd be fired if they did, most likely, I mean, according to you guys.

I'm just a working joe. But if you can't hack it, find another job. It will be better for you and the company.

Mr. A**hole was entirely sympathetic to my fear of flight when he found out. In the end I made the flight when I got my detest for the activity at bay.

Mr Bill, it's a very bad thing to hate people for their shortcoming's, you're better than that bro.

Pocatello clearly hates union's which means he has probably had to deal with people in them under his own authority (or at least, that's what he implied with his post), it was a joke.

My question is, how do you present this to a union??? Secondly, when I go to corporate, what's my best approach on dealing with this piece of sh*t????? I know for a fact *EVERYONE* hates this man. He is currently undergoing a lawsuit for firing someone on false pretense and he's trying to get my attention at this point, coaxing me to do something wrong it would seem.

I believe the answer to your question about how to present to an union is:

Set up a meeting with your union rep. They have process for this.

When you get to corporate you will need to do what ever the union suggests you do.

Unsolicited advice:

Don't get so emotional. The guy maybe a jerk, but you're not helping yourself.

It's like being on a bridge and being told to jump off. Something tells you not to get on the plane because you're life is at risk if you do so.

Grogy from waking at 4:45am to make a 6am flight, having not faced this fear since I was 6, I was not at all ready to overcome such negative thoughts; nor was I even aware I would have them. I grew up in Oakland California and feel impervious to far more than I should I would imagine (a tough guy). I was shocked to find myself as anxious as I was.

I Googled it, found out it's no joke, sucked it up and made the flight. I still feel flying sucks and I will continue to avoid it as much as possible.

Thanks home brew, I know emotion's can cause inappropriate action's. The evidence is right here in the replie's to this thread, though they probably could have been avoided with a bit more eloquence on my part I'm sure.

Never, ever underestimate the bad stuff that might happen as a result of pissing off your superiors. I doubt that's the end of the game now - he's probably looking how to screw you. You seem to be very hostile, though. I can't see how any of the stuff above is anyone's fault by yours. The only thing at question is the district manager's attitude, but I'd hardly call your post balanced, so we might not know about that.

Anyway, I'd try to work something off through your direct manager. To really come out of it OK, you need to lick up to that district manager. As going to him directly might be seem like another confrontation, I'd suggest that you ask your direct manager to hint to the guy above that you're so sorry about that and full of remorse. Unless you either pissed off your direct manager as well, or that the district manager is a complete douche, this might lead to some closure.

If you go head to head with the district manager, through union or otherwise, I doubt you'll ever have peace in your workplace. Managers don't like people pulling such crap on them, it serves as a bad example. As someone who runs a company, I know I wouldn't like it either.

Actually, no, its something completely not like that at all.

honestly.

OP has an irrational fear of flying. sucks for him, but youre spose to mention it *before* a flight gets booked.

also, youre supposed to close a safe. I would have written you up as well after that. one issue may not be a big deal, but with a second its time for management to do something.

Fear of flying Lazy. Didn't anticipate an inability to get on a plane. Last time I was on one was when I was 5 or 6, it was an issue then, but mom wasn't there to force me on the plane this time.

The training goes on 4 times a year guys . . . Mr. A**hole said he'd be willing to send me by train if he had to, I'm thinkin it wasn't that big a deal. If it was a big deal, he would have wrote me up for it right????

If he can write me up for pennies and a safe the size of a postal machine, he'd of done so for the flight if it mattered.

He was *only* worried about my plane ticket money, which means he questioned my integrity.

You lied to him and your upset that he's questioning your integrity?
