I want to build a new system. While this system would be used mainly for regular computing (web developing, web surfing, etc.) I would like to take all my family's video tapes, edit the files and burn them on DVD. Here are the components I want to use:
Asus K8V motherboard
AMD64 3200+
2x512MB Mushkin PC3500 cas2
Kingwin K11 midtower case
Antec 400W PSU case
2x36GB 10,000RPM WD Raptor / 2x120GB WD1200JD 7200RPM SATA
Radeon 9600 Pro A-I-W 128MB / Radeon 9000 Pro A-I-W 64MB
Plextor PX-708A
Since I am looking at working with and modifying video files, my questions are:
1. Should I go for the 36GB Raptors or are the WD 1200JD's fast enough? Would I notice a difference between them? Or should I have 2 x 36GB Raptors in Raid and have one 1200JD for data storage?
2. Same question about the Radeon A-I-W: is the difference between the 9600 Pro 128MB and the 9000 Pro 64MB worth the difference in price (about $80)?
I would appreciate any advise.
