Dumb question - anyone know if the Costco / Berkley and Jenses value store jeans are the same as department store jeans? BJs tends to have CK jeans at great prices but they somehow feel different to the touch to me (or it could all be in my head)

They're different. Same with premium denim sold on Amazon. It's the second rate stuff. I fell for the cheap prices and got some 7s that weren't so nice, and were made in Mexico.

The only really nice sub-$100 jeans I've seen lately are the wrangler retros and 20X jeans. They seem to usually go for around $50 most places. I'm wearing a pair of the retros right now. Definitely the best fitting jeans I have.

Uniqlo has these Japanese selvedge jeans that are kind of pricey (around $100 if I remember) but super durable. They also have regular jeans for around $40. I think there's a few of them in Manhattan.

There is no such thing as "premium denim". There are only idiots who think that paying twice as much turns a basic utilitarian fabric into something fashionable.

It doesn't!!

OP, quit being a puss and buy some wranglers. Then go do some real work.

If you have an outlet mall near you why not get some Levis? Get some 569s on sale for like $20-$30. I don't know if they are considered "premium", but the Levis name should stop you from getting made fun of during recess.

$200 or even $100 jeans seem a waste. IF you have jeans you are afraid to change the oil on a car in then they are to expensive. Jeans are not for work

I like Levi's. or whatever i can find on sale at Farm & fleet. They last a long time and are fine to wear.

I like Buffalo as well. They're my fav after 7 jeans.
Recently I bought 3 pairs of Diesel. Ended up returning them. Hated the fit/finish and material.

casiotech only wear sever for all man kind. Jpaython only rolling in seven and nothing else.

I would go with Joe jeans, but you will not find them for $40. Check out marshals, sometime they have lucky jean for $35.

I have one SOAM jean and NEVER EVER AGAIN. If you think Buffalo jeans are fragile, they make Buffalo look like Carhartt work pants. They are super fragile - even though they fit me loosely. They broke in less than 3 wearings.

The A pkt jeans fit fantastic though.

Random statement about how jeans are inappropriate for work

Oh, I'm not used to it either. I wore a tie and slacks for the first 2 weeks I worked at my new job and got ridiculed - it's a "hip" office place where everyone wears sneakers. Very weird for me but I'm ok with it because I get to drop the f bomb without worrying about H.R. That's why all my jeans are bumming around the house jeans not "work appropriate" - the concept's new to me but I'm adapting instead of being a stick in the mud. I just don't want to spend $200, because that's stupid.

You just buy pants that don't fit. There is a reason there are pleated, non pleated, loose fit, baggy, straight leg, etc. Everyones body is different.

You look stupid probably because you are to lazy to try on the various types. If you can't find dockers or Levis that work for $30, you have probably that have nothing to do with brand logos.

People that spend more than $50 on jeans havea problem that rhymes with sleigh.

Gap jeans are pretty easily my favorite, followed by Calvin Klein.

Yep - gap used to be my go to but they fit me really oddly these days and the quality feels different to me (vs. 10 years ago). Comments seem to echo my feelings that something has changed in their manufacturer process and now resemble a halfway point between Old Navy and the old gap quality. Not bad for a $30 sale, but their sticker price seems inflated. CK, will check out for sure.

I'm a minority man married to a Caucasian woman and have the most adorable mix-raced baby you've ever seen, live an urban life with urban problems, hire and respect professionals to do my car repair work because I don't have a backyard because, due to simple supply and demand economics, my tiny house is worth more than your 50 hick acres... And don't give a shit about being called a puss by some rednecks because your world means nothing to me.. Hee-haw!

Implying that someone is homosexual or not manly like some of you posters have implied simply because I'd like sub-$100 jean recommendations that don't fall apart because I, like you, am fashion agnostic and I just want to buy a few pairs and not worry about this shit...Implying that I'm a pussy or gay is some caveman bullshit right there, friends. Be a man- respect that other people have different values (I didn't say better) and evolve, chump.

I have tried lucky brand jeans and after 1 wash they got really tight in the crouch region before that they fit pretty well.

I have just been buying jeans from american eagle. OP I think it would be a safe bet for work place jeans to go with any brand that you like but look for some of the darker washes and avoid any of the pre-worn styles that either look like they could rip at any time or have any holes to begin with. At American Eagle the wash designations I typically go for are Dark and Medium Worn.

Yep, that's been my problem with cheapies (like the 4 pairs of $20 arizonas that fit well at first but got tight in the crotch and now flair horribly at the legs). I spend so much time and money replacing ruined value brands that upping my budget makes sense.

Will def. give American Eagle a try. Thanks for the suggestion!

The most I've ever spent on a pair jeans was $50. Lately I've been buying Levi's from Kohl's for around $25 after coupon + Kohls cash + free shipping.

I love my Levis- no complaints but I feel they're more for weekends. Should qualify that a bit - their cheapie lines are great but styled kinda blandly while they're more modern cuts are like $80

A little off topic, but I don't wear jeans anymore because I notice that several of my well tailored brands of pants actually hold up better over time than jeans. And they are more comfortable, and in many cases cheaper than jeans.

The whole point of jeans is durability and comfort, but I don't really see that in any of the sub $100 jeans I've purchased. I don't know if that's just the way modern jeans are, or if I just have bad luck.
