Has anybody played this? It's Age of Empires, except with Indian tribes. It sounded and looked cool (saw it at Walmart) and I'm considering buying it. Has anybody played it or heard anything about it?

I still play AOE3... have yet to get war-chiefs

But on another note they are about to have another expansion where you play as Asian Dynasties. To me that sounds more of a treat than War-Chiefs and most likely war-chiefs will be cheaper than too.

barfo, just wondering why you don't like AOE3? I started from AOE and I've enjoyed them all. The only problem with AOE3 i see is it is very taxing on hardware with HDR and 1920x1200.

*edit*

there is a war chiefs demo so you can try it out yourself, i just downloaded it

I am an AoE whore, but I didn't get WC, there were better games than that for me than that. I'm waiting for the ex-pack and y-pack to come together at a low price, or just for both to go down in price. This Asian Dynasties looks intriguing.

I got it when it first came out. Was pretty good, I mainly got it for the multiplayer, especially Coop. Overall, the native american tribes are very interesting to play. It's a very different style than the 'classic' European civilizations. The fire pit, unit restrictions a and power balance are well done. My favourite was the Sioux: cavalry units only. Really strong, no walls/tower defence, especially useful as a backup teammate to go on the offensive.

The only regret I have is that I didn't bother much with the singleplayer. It's the first game I've ever gotten and haven't finished (singleplayer-wise). Not that it's bad, just kind of run of the mill. Adds a nice introduction to units, but the story doesn't exactly pull you in.

Sounds good. Anybody have any recommendations for someone who has been a fan of the AOE franchise?

The only RTS's story that's really engaged me was Warcraft's. It had all the elements of being an RPG/RTS blend. Brilliant design.
Age of Empires 3's campaign was decent.

By the way, you all know this, but Age of Empires 3 has a y-pack being developed by Big Huge Games, designers behind Rise of Nations, so it's going to be interesting, multiplayer wise.
I was hoping they'd introduce some european civs, but here's a cool thing about Age of Empires 3 in general: A new ES patch is coming in that'll let Mods be playable in multiplayer!
That's the latest rumor!

I loved AOE and AOE2 but the third didn't do anything for me, I liked AOM more.

My only problem with AOE3 was not being able to scroll out farther. Just felt so constraining trying to manage everything having to scroll so much.

Yeah, hopefully they fix that by their next RTS game. (Not Asian Dynasties obviously).
Btw, seeing this as a sorta Ensemble Studios thread, Sandy Petersen, designer of the Warchiefs said that when he was finished with his ex-pack project, he was sent on to work on an 'announced project' that he is the most excited for since making one of his other games before he joined Ensemble Studios.
We know its not Halo Wars, because that's a piece of crap anyway, but I'm intrigued. It could be that this is the game that gets Ensemble back on their feet, or reinvigorates the whole AoE series if that's what it is.

yeah AOM was fun, the single player was a lot better than AOE3. Another problem i forgot to add about AOE3 is single player seemed short, and there are a couple of Network bugs like failing to join games, out of sync problems, and if a host drops out of a computer fight online that computer stops fighting back...

Well i can't wait for Ensemble Studios come out with there next whatever as i always get my moneys worth with their games.

If I have a feeling what they're coming out with, you just may well get your money's worth.

I used to play this game ALL the time. AOE3 and also with the expansion, TWC. I don't play anymore. I got bored of it, finally! Not as many good players play anymore but players who play for fun can still find plenty of noobish friendly games. It's a pretty good RTS but there are balance issues even after the game has been out for so long but they are not THAT bad, unless you play only 1v1 games. Some of the more economic civs have more of a chance in team games.

I was in the top 20 players worldwide at one point while playing this game. I'm not that high on the ladder anymore though. Yeah, I am bragging hahaha, no but it is really fun, it got me addicted enough to get that far! But I fear the game is just losing it's spark after all this time being out. Nice game though.

Do you think you'll buy The Asian Dynasties, developed by Big Huge Games?

It was all about AoE2 + Expansion. That game consumed me. Custom matches on the Zone were extremely fun. Sadly MS disbanded the Zone.

I think AoE2 MP is still playable though. MS and ES scooped it up and now have their own servers for it.
*I think*

Hmm I dunno, maybe if it gets good reviews or something and I get really bored of every thing else. It's no fun to get good at something and then stopping and having to do it all over again, but we'll see.

Sadly, no. I won't be getting the new expansion. Got kinda bored with AoE 3. It was great while it lasted, but just over it now, and don't feel like going back.

Hi guys...

am a big gamer of the AoE series since launch... a decade now...

got to admit that this series dominated a good number of years in the gaming scene...

AoE 2 Conquerors is the best... you can still enjoy its gameplay now... along with the AoE2: Age of the Kings campaigns...

AoM & Titans were equally good and comes a close second...

Then came AoE3... not really gettin me into it lads... I remember the days when I first got my hands on the other editions... used to be addicted to get to the next story in the campaigns...

not the case here... I agree with Markbnj, the maps certainly feel restrictive... maybe its just us expecting more... do you guys see much diff in the jaguar/eagle warriors... thought they were better in conquerors... maybe I feel so cos I have been used to them for long...

I nevertheless love this series... I will finish war chiefs soon (been hooked onto other games) and look forward to Asian dynasties...

I enjoy the gameplay and would be playing this series for long... Hope AoE3: Asian Dynasties raise the AoE flag back to its place with some good additions...

Long live the Age of Empire series....

AoE I and II were sweet!!! I coudn't stand AoEIII though. I think it was mostly the fact I couldn't zoom out was the most irritating.

How far were you looking to zoom out? There was a camera zoom setting in the menu screens that let you adjust the maximum zoom. The default zoom is definitely limited though.

As a former addict of the Age series, AoE3 cured me of my addiction. I was crazy hooked on all of them starting with AoE1, but it just sort of fizzled out a couple months after AoE3's release. I was in a highly competitive gaming clan for Age games...etc. But Age3 wasn't what I was hoping for so I sorta slowly ended up leaving the series entirely. It's not a bad game, by any means... just not what I was hoping for after the awesome Age2 and, to a lesser some extent, AoM.

As for TWC, I played over 400 online games of AoE3 (all 2v2's or 3v3's) and I thought TWC might get me interested in the series again. Instead, I couldn't get past more than 6-7 games before uninstalling.

Yeah, for Age 1&2 I had a shitty connection, so no MP, but AoE3, joined a clan, worked for a couple months, but then it died. And so did my interested in AoE3, but damn that game was addicting to me, it was all about the levelzing.

Leveling was cool, it was a little too slow, imo. Despite playing almost 400 online matches in AoE3, I never managed to even try half the civs since I was always trying to get the civs I already had up to lvl 60+.
