<< the difference between hunting and eating meat is that you don't kill the animal yourself. i don't think i could kill something without hating it... and there's not much reason to hate some animal that's never done anything to you >>

In the real world -- the natural world, that is -- it's eat or be eaten. Sure, the deer that you kill has never done anything to you, but it would if its natural food was people. It eats its food (plants) and, in a way, "kills" the plant without any sort of hate. Also, if you don't kill that deer and eat its meat, you would eventually become hungry and then malnourished and then become easy pray for something that DOES eat humans, even if it's just the foxes and vultures that pick over your dead body.

Animals are hundreds of times more effecient at extracting energy from plants than we are. We eat celery and lose energy in the process, because the carbohydrates are so complex that our bodies cannot digest them. Cows and other cud-chewing animals have developed the processes necessary to efficiently extract energy from plants, and we have the capability to fairly efficiently extract energy from animal flesh. The moral? Eating animals = good.

The idea that hatred is a necessary precondition for killing is silly liberal stuff. The only way that you could refuse to kill is if you hated YOURSELF and wanted to see your own extinction. Which many people do nowadays, it seems. I sometimes think about the thousands of generations that fought and struggled and developed through so much hardship to bring us where we are now, only to watch us throw it all away by having no children. It must really take a strong self-hatred to not want to have children.

To me it seems that the only problem is the lack of appreciation for equilibrium.

Immortalize the 50's, yeah, great times if you were white and thought like everyone else, lest be beaten, harassed, denied services. Perhaps you just mean the gender roles aspect, but this kind of treatment of non-comformists/alien peoples comes from the same male archetype. So I say, if this is the age of the wimp, the 50's was the age of the walking phallus, when no one questioned the power of the old white boys club. The wimp is just a backlash from those times. Common ground is better than divided, we're people before we're men/women.

<< I feel sorry for you MichaelD that you are so jaded. I realize you have had awful experiences with women to have this outlook, but take heart that not all women are like you describe. Case in point, I've been through several "amicable breakups" myself, and I'm on civil to friendly terms with most of my exes.

As for the fifties, here's an idea of the era you miss so much...

~EDIT~

Just want to add that I really like and agree with Luv2Chill's comments. They're so respectful, thoughtful, and level-headed... why is he not Elite yet?? Just wondering. I think he should be.

YES! KLEE58, that's exactly what I'm talking about. You made me very happy. That's EXACTLY how all attached women should behave...we'd have much less divorce that way. I've printed that out and will give it to my GF. She'll smack me in the head with it, but I'm gonna give it to her anyway!

<< We have to live in fear of women, in general, because men are not respected by women anymore. It used to be when your man yelled at you, you respected him and shut you damn mouth. >>

On several levels I think you are alone. The fantasy that's described by you in the sentences above are indeed closer to the truth in Japan(maybe you should move there). My mother hated it. After my parents divorced, she raised me by herself with no child support whatsoever from my father. She didn't even ask for it. She did everything, including work two jobs at time, so she could to give me the life I have now. I can't fathom her standing two steps behind any man, as she is as good as any man. It has been more than 10 years since she remarried. She married a Marine. He's as tough as anyone I've met. Funny how he doesn't yell at her to get any respect, or appear particularly fearful of my mother. They respect each other. Of course they play different roles in their relationship, and she's never insisted on getting half of everything in their relationship, but I think they very much see each other as their equal. I'm not scared by independent women, but I gravitate towards them(but this is not to be taken as a sign of Oedipus complex ).

All men, in general share certain primal traits, as all women share a certain set of primal traits.
That doesn't mean that every person of the same gender is exactly alike, or shares those same traits to the same degree, nor does it mean that every person of a particular gender has a certain family role. It does imply that such a division of genders would be easy to make, and history shows that it was indeed. Men, in general are still more aggressive that women, at least from what I've seen from the people that attend the highschool I go to. Women are in general better managers. However, most people that attend my highschool generally have no respect for anybody, generally show no signs of intelligence, and generally posses ano knowledge whatsoever. That doesn't mean EVERYBODY that goes there is a stupid, ignorant, disrespectful person. It would imply it, and a randomly sampled statistical model would probably back the statement up, but its not true.

Lest I be completely misunderstood, I do not feel that one must fight and hunt to be a man, though these are traits I would like in a Marine.

What is the measure of a man? A man is true to his word (including his wedding vows), he works hard, lifts his wife up so that she can be the whole person God wants her to be, and loves his children (which includes discipline). He leads his household in the direction they should go, but with a servant?s heart. The needs of his wife are more important than his own needs. He never buys anything for himself if there is any need at home. Duty comes before personal satisfaction.
