Yeah, but for enough money, they'll distort space for you. No problem.
This thread has been a good read! I agree $300 is too much. $100 would be ok.
I don't agree with saying we don't need a PPU in current games, there's enough spare CPU cycles. I think that's because developers can't put in the extra physics, as there hasn't been enough spare CPU to implement it properly.
I'm interested in the PPU personally. Could make a mammoth difference to driving sims. Although they do tend to be a bit low volume. Could change though with REAL physics. hehe.
Also, with physics offloaded, the CPU is freed up even more (lazy slackers) and IMO this could be put to good use making awesome AI. Have advanced AI routines that could be turned on/off, so that if you have either a)monster CPU or b) PPU and cheaper CPU, you can have hugely more advanced AI. It would be a lot of development work, but I think if having a PPU gives gamers more options, they'll be more interested.
Basically, PPU means better physics yes, but also could mean other improvements from newly freed CPU cycles.

EDIT:
Plus, if I could do/see
this in a game, maaaan that'd be cool.
