AGP Card

Hi Gurus,

I just bought a Intel mother board D875PBZ.
In the installation manual it says to install AGP card.

What is this AGP card ? What is the purpose of using it ?

What happens if I don't install AGP card ?

wow. i REALLY hope you are not trying to build your own PC and you dont even know what an AGP card is. you are in for hell....


an agp card is a video card that goes in your AGP slot. (the brown one on top of the white ones)

it doesn't look like your motherboard has onboard graphics, so i guess you would need to buy an agp graphics card.

check out the guides on anandtech to find out which one is good for your needs. If your into gaming, but are on a budget, get the geforce 4 4200ti. I have that and its more than good enough for any car racing game.

what does a graphics card do?

in order to play a game smoothly, the computer must be able to update the picture on your screen at least 30 times per second(30fps-frames per second). 60fps is very good. todays games use high detail objects with high detail textures on them that give them the final look, as well as some advanced lighting effects. the object detail is handled by the cpu(hope you know what that is!), this is handed over to the agp card which applies the textures and renders the final picture with lighting which is sent to your display. this requires a lot of computation, so the agp card is there to help the cpu, resulting in a higher fps and smoother gameplay.
