AGP Slot Broken???

I had written an earlier thread about having problems with my computer freezing up on me. I've narrowed the entire problem down to the AGP slot on my motherboard. And believe me... I checked EVERYTHING. From memory to cables. And I know for sure now that it's the AGP slot or perhaps the BIOS settings for AGP (which I haven't seen anything to promote this). I have a Soyo Dragon P4X400 Ultra Platinum motherboard... does anyone have any ideas as to what I might be able to do to check this AGP slot or fix it perhaps? Or has anyone had a similar problem? It freezes up my computer often.... especially when I load games or lots of windows. I've tried turning on and off the AGP Fast write with no luck. I'm lost.

I'm sorry but I haven't seen your previous posts about this issue, so excuse me if you've already answered this question:

What kind (and what wattage) of power supply are you using and what was the video card?

PowMax 500 watt and a Radeon 9700 Pro

But it's not the powersupply or the video card that's causing the problem. I've already tested this... with 2 other powersupplies and 2 other video cards. It's my AGP slot. And I've updated to the latest BIOS revision for my motherboard so there's really nothing more I can think of doing.

Lot's of people have problems with that board. Just do a search for soyo p4x400 at rage3d forum. Update your bios to the newest version. Try running the card at 4x agpinstead of 8x agp.

Yea, do that. That's usually the problem

Like I said before... I've tried everything. I tried the 4x speed and lower. I've already updated my BIOS and still have this problem. The thing is... I NEVER had this problem before, even after I purchased the 9700 Pro. This just started all of a sudden.

Yes... I tested the memory... tested the harddrive... tell you what, here's a list of things I tested...

Hard drives
Memory
Temperature
Cables
IDE slots
PCI slots
AGP slot <<<<<<<<< this is the problem
CPU (3 different CPU's)
BIOS updates and settings
Fans
Floppy Drive
USB ports and drivers
Mouse
Keyboard
Video cards
Sound (onboard and PCI)
Voltages (I even used a MultiMeter to test everything, 9 hours)
Different wall outlets
Different monitors
RF and UF interference
CD rom
DVD rom
Short circuits in the power supply, buttons, etc.
PSU itself

I think the only thing I haven't tried looking for are little green men running around in there causing problems for fun. Anyway... I wrote to Soyo... or rather they wrote me back and said that it sounded like my AGP slot was somehow shorted out or the BUS to the AGP was corrupted. Either static or a voltage spike, in either case I would have to send it back. So... I'm sending the motherboard back and they're going to try and fix it but I'm pretty much asking for a complete replacement. I don't care if they're professionals, I don't want them to tinker with the pathways on the board and send it back to me with something else wrong with it. It doesn't matter how good anyone is at fixing motherboards... once you seal the pathways on the wafer and start to mess around with them, something's going to go wrong.

why dont you buy a new motherboard and be done with it? I mean you must have spent more time than the board is worth!

Because if I can get a brand new one for free... why spend the money on a different one?
