I had a problem with booting and beeps and crashing. After some tests, ram is fine, fans are all on, all drivers updated, swapped in and out 2 agp gfx cards and finally put in a pci gfx card. Now system runs fine.

So, is there anyway to test/find out what's wrong with my agp slot, or is it not worth the hassle?

I bet you have one of those Nvidia motherboards don't you? If your trying to put an older video card in that is a 3.3v card then it won't accept them. Something along the lines of a TNT2 Ultra and newer will be ok but those Riva cards won't work. But if your using a Geforce series you should be working...
If your not using a Nvidia board..then I don't have any idea!!

Uhm...yeah. Intel chipset boards haven't accepted 3.3V cards for years, nor do any AGP8X chipsets from anybody else.

However, you don't just get errors with a 3.3V card installed. You burn out the motherboard and the video card, unless the motherboard has protection circuitry built in that prevents the system from even booting with the wrong type of card.

I doubt your AGP slot is "broken." Like some of the other suggestions and stuff, try changing the AGp card you are using to something maybe much earlier... Your BIOS may also have some funky things enabled/disabled. For that, maybe you want to flash your bios to make sure you have the latest version, and then cross your fingers.

Sorry about the late response.

Here's my system:

AMD 1.4ghz Proc
512 Meg DDR Ram
KS75A SiS Board
GeForce 2TI AGP Card.

Swapped the GeForce 2TI card out and put a GeForce4 MX440 AGP card in to test the Vid Card.

The Problem:

Sometimes beeps and doesn't boot. Sometimes it gives me a black error screen before fully loading. Sometimes I get a Hardware Failure screen after/while Windows is Loading. Same symptoms with both AGP Cards. When I put in an older 32 Meg PCI Vid card I have no problems at all, except, of course, the graphics are super slow with the PCI Card.

Prognosis:

AGP slot is screwed up somehow/someway.

Solution:

???? Is the slot itself Fragged? Are the Bios Flunked? The system ran fine for over a year and a half. I haven't done anything to the system bios. For about a month the only problem I had was the Beeping. But a reset or two normally got me into Windows. Then Windows 98SE got Borked so I installed WinXP. After that I started getting the hardware problems. Is it a setting in WinXP? Doesn't really seem possible. I've downloaded all the most current drivers from the Nvidia Website. Let me know what you think I can try to do, because Internet Games are unplayable with a PCI Gfx Card.

It's looking more and more like your AGP slot is screwed!!! Those K7S5A boards are good boards..but I've run into a couple problems every now and then with them and have to RMA them....matter of fact I have one sitting in my room ready to RMA right now. Is the board brand new? if so return it.

The board is a year and a half old. Is there still any warranty on it or should I start researching to build a new rig?

Buy a new mobo. The Shuttle AK32A mobo is pretty good. You can read more my technical issues Here! or check out Shuttle's website for more info. (Links in the messages in the AT thead).

NewEgg has this board for $53, plus $5 super saver shipping. You can use your existing CPU in this board until you decide to upgrade it.

You can also just buy a DDR-only board, too, since it appears you don't need the PC133 RAM functionality, anyway.
