AGP speed with GeForce 3!?!?

Hi,
I've had my Asus V8200 Pure delievered...and after installing, running 3dmark2001, ran the demo, within 1 minute, the graphics locked, with the sound continuing ... Hard reboot needed, so...into the bios I went, changed my aparture to 128Mb from 64Mb (didn't lock then + a noticable performance increase) but I only got 1120 3dMarks!!! My system is this: 1Ghz AMD T-Bird (not oc'ed), 256 CAS 2 Crucial, Abit KT7-RAID, 30Gb IBM (running at UDMA100) + Asus 8200 Pure GeForce3. I 'was' running the latest det drivers (12.10 I think)...so I installed the ones from the ASUS disk (10.40 I think). After looking through the diagnosic software from ASUS it said this: Bus type: AGP 4X (currently 1X) !!!! I think this is my problem...please can anyone help? I have made sure that the bios says 4X + fast write is enabled...anyone got any ideas please? I'm running WinMe too :/

UPDATE: Now running det v12.60 ... no change - also another problem found.
- When monitor goes on standby, (after 15minutes in my case) the geforce temperture rockets, luckily my digidoc alarmed me before it got too hot (depends if u think 69C is too hot ) so I shutdown...no damage done (I hope). Thinking of returning the card, please help!

I had kinda of the same problem in Win2K. Check to see if your Video card is on it's own IRQ. In win2k, it put everything on one IRQ and I had very poor performane. Once I got my card on it's own IRQ, I got a score of 4880 3DMark2001. I don't know how WinME works but its woth checking out.

I installed the 4-1, Directx8a, NVidia 12.41's and still had the same problem. I even called Microsoft tech support and they were no help. When I checked my IRQ's, I noticed that Win2K puts everything on one IRQ. As soon as I got my card on it's own IRQ, My card started rockin. Also, NVidia is supposed to release their Detonator4's sometime soon. It will be a big performance increase for the the GeForce cards.

Go get the 4.32 4in1 drivers from here and install them with the AGP in turbo mode. Then (re)install the latest version on DX8. Finally, go to ftp.asus.com and find the Asus 12.90 drivers (you may have to hunt a bit...I think they are in the beta section), install those. You should now be in 4X agp mode. I don't know if you've had coolbits installed from a previous video card with overclocking enabled or not but something similar to that is what's likely causing your temps to jump after monitor standby. There is an issue with the settings re-applying themselves after the monitor reinitializes, and thats whats causing your temps to jump and can cause card damage. I don't know if this is only a coolbits issue or also affects Asus Tweak and other OCing tools, so either make sure you don't have any overclocking allowed or disable monitor standby.

My friend was getting 1300 3DM2k1 scores on his GF2MX + Duron 850 while my Celeron 850 + GF DDR was getting 2500. It turns out that we forgot to install the Via 4in1's for him...

Thanks so much, I installed all the bits as YBS1 said, and I now get 4300 marks, which I'm happy with...for now I darent try the standby trick again...well not just yet, Thanks again.
