I just finished upgrading my computer. When i hooked it up in one room it worked excellent then i moved it to where it is going to stay and hooked everything up and it decided to give me a blue screen while starting WindosXP Professional. So i figured i would try to run only the keyboard and mouse but it still gave me the same message. So I hooked it back up in the other room and it works. The only difference between the two is keyboard, mouse, and monitor. I have no idea what is going wrong. I upped the voltage to the memory and nothing happened. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

WinXP Doesnt like to be smitched to a new monitor, KB, and mouse cause the hardware fingerprints are diff. I was told that it is a security/anti-piracy thing. It Happened to me too.

Try using the working hardware with the computer in the location to where it is going to stay. If the computer werks after that. Then you know it is not have to do with the eletrical outlet. We know it is a hardware fingerprint thing.

No offense, but I think that you are probably way off on that, OneClone. keyboards and mice don't have unique hardware serials to query, so it is highly unlikely that would be the issue, especially if the "different" keyboard and mouse are of the same type (PS/2 or USB). Plus, I don't think that needing re-activation causes a BSOD, it should instead cause a dialog to prompt the user that the OS needs to be re-activated with MS and give the phone number to call.

Something else is definately going on here, most likely due to whatever it was in the computer that was recently upgraded.

anth1987, please give us more details about your computer, *especially* about what was recently upgraded.

Why not just drag the original keyboard, mouse and monitor to the new room too.

If it doesn't work then, check the electrical outlet.

I second that.

Windows XP does not monitor keyboard, mouse or monitor to decide if re-activation is required.

Give us the stop code from the blue screen, or just look it up in the MSKB yourself.

Try moving the surge protector too. I had something similar happen and it turned out the surge-supressor had taken a hit when some electricians were installing a heater (incorrectly!). I was convinced it had had a hard-drive failure, but in this case truth was stranger than fiction
