So you are doing exactly what they did in Iraq after the first Iraq war. Say that you support "freedom" in the country, encourage the people, and then when the people rise up, don't support them and allow them to get CRUSHED by the government.

Obama has to toe a delicate line in this situation. The last thing the US wants is to appear like a heavy handed power imposing its will on Iran. That could unify the people, or a large enough percentage of moderates and conservatives, to coalesce around Ahmadinejad.

If the street protests are providing pressure on the Iranian government, it's best to let them play out. If the government cracks down or finalizes the sham election, then Obama should speak out harshly.
