Better Than Fans? New 'AirJet' Chip Promises To Overhaul Laptop Cooling

The San Jose-based Frore Systems claims the new cooling technology can deliver a 50% to 100% increase in performance for laptops without generating much sound.

This is so cool. And Qualcomm apparently invested $100 million so it seems legit.

Welp, gen 2 finally rolled up.

Not a 2x perf increase at 7.5W, but it does shave off slightly more height at 2.5mm vs the 2.65mm Mini Slim SKU from last year.

Perhaps their so called "Frore's Law" of 2x every 2 years was not talking about perf/mm² but perf/mm³ instead so they think shrinking the height satisfies the criteria?

Edit the OG AirJet Mini height was 2.8mm, so they haven't exactly shaved off a huge amount of volume at just a 10.7% ish reduction to reach 2.5mm.

The max power consumption also rose from 1W on the Mini Slim to 1.2W on the Mini G2, so it is more efficient, but not drastically so.

Actually, looking at the claimed figures for a 4x configuration it only removes 24W, which implies that the power draw/extra added heat from the MEMS jet is more like 1.5W which means that if anything the gen 2 chip is less efficient, because it is getting <1.5x perf for >=1.5x power draw.

Things are really not looking so good for Frore's future prospects if my interpretations are correct.

Yeah, the heat dissipation figures are laughable. Maybe only worth it for phones or emulation handhelds.

They also removed the "net xxxW" figure from the spec sheet, which is the tech equivalent of "trust me bruh" as far as I am concerned.

Frore people if you are paying attention, you need to do better, because these kind of actions are precisely what erodes trust in a product and the company that produces it.

Given AirJet represents the debut of MEMS cooling tech it may even erode overall trust in that too if this behavior persists.

The fact that the AirJet Pro was announced with the debut of the tech and still hasn't seen a single product partnership nor updates keeping pace with the Mini SKUs it also seems like they have some issues scaling the individual packages.

This is increasingly looking very much like pseudo vapourware....

Their own Youtube channel doesn't even have a video on AirJet Mini G2.

Shows just how high their confidence in the product is.
