Airline ticket pricing is stupid

My wife has a business trip to take to San Fransisco. We've never been there together, so we figured it would be a good opportunity for us to get away. She has to fly out of Minneapolis to San Fransisco . I will be flying out of Omaha with a connecting flight in Minneapolis.

Why the hell would my ticket be $113 cheaper than hers?

Same flight dates..we'll even be on the same plane from MSP to SFO. Stupid

Granted, her ticket is free and mine isn't, so I guess it's more of a "sweet" than a "WTF"
$147 round trip for me $260 for her

Tickets were really cheap this year/summer. I got one for $155 from San Fran to Omaha. And another for $298 from SAn FRan to Omaha. This winter I had to pay $450 for the same thing!

yeah, if my memory is correct, I once had to fly from LAX to Greensboro in NC which has a connection flight in Charlotte. That flight cost 210. While a flight from LAX to Charolette cost 250.

Sometimes there's really not much logic to how they price things.A flight on the 29th to Kangaroo land from SFO cost about 1300 US, said flight on the 30th, around 1800...then on the 1st of July, back down to 1500. Same airline and prices looked up about a week in advance btw

Assuming you ment the flight from LAX to Charolette that is 250 is really LAX to Greensboro that can be explained by the fact that it is easier and cheaper for an airline to fly a bigger plane such as the 767 from LAX to Charolette which is a big hub for that area (I'm guessing you flew US Air?) and then fly a dinky regional jet to Greensboro. Whereas if you flew directly to Greensboro not only are there fewer people that will go from LAX to there, but they also have to use a much bigger plane and run the risk of not getting many people for a return flight to wherever it goes to.

they're competing with someone else's prices from omaha to san fran, which may be the price you're paying

flights with stop overs are always cheaper

you want a direct flight which is teh fastest you pay the most for it

I really forgot the exact details. What's for sure is that I would ended up paying less to fly to the "dinky" Greesboro than Charlotte.

Where the heck are you guys getting your tickets? I just priced out a round trip from New York state to Dallas and the best price I could find is $513. That's twice as much as your wife's ticket for a trip about the same distance.

That's what I'm thinking too. I rarely, if ever find pricing from Kansas City to Seattle for less than $300.

icepik - it all depends on the competition between discounters and bigger airlines and between themselves. They're just making a lot less on his flight but they're making a killing (obviously not enough to stay out of bankrupcy) off your flight
