Buy a cheap laptop, put a big HD in it, interface the audio out on laptop to your car stereo(Cassette adapter, line in to amp, etc).

i have one. i like it. i haven't read the anandtech review though. but, yeah, it plays mp3s, it sounds good, i have no complaints.

as for the laptop in the car, i did that before. it's not exactly practical doing 90 on the freeway trying to fiddle with winamp.

7/10??? Theres no way that thing deserves a 7/10. The whole mp3 idea is good and all...but its an aiwa...no aiwa car audio unit deserves a 7/10.

this is a standard price on these units. the car audio place in town says these sound like 98k at the very best, not near the standard 128k.

This does not fit in my car. I think I'll wait on buying a car audio MP3 player. The one by Aiwa and Kenwood has room for improvements.

i definitely agree wit roadrunner and doodoo, even tho aiwa is made by sony, it sux!!! Sony is not very good for audio in my opinion, esp their receivers, i've already have 2 die on me in the past 5 years! I would rather stick to a cd player and just burn a lot of cds but have a lot better quality like pioneer, kenwood, etc.

I have one of these, and i dont know what you all are complaining about, it looks cool, it is powerful, and it plays the mp3s very well, there is no crackling or fuzziness. I would recommend this as your best choice, unless you got another 300 bucks for the kenwood...

I was a big Alpine fan until I couldn't get an Alpine MP3 player. I just bought the Kenwood 919, and I LOVE it. It can be improved (add rewind and fast forward in songs, quicker file searching, better interface, etc.), but the 919 is a GREAT CD player with tons of bells and whistles that happens to play MP3's. Most of the negatives of the 919 can be overcome by carefully planning MP3 disc creation. I got a one time deal of $456 after tax from an authorized excelon dealer, but I have been offered one for $400 from a non-authorized dealer. Also, I did some product testing for another authorized dealer who offered it to me at around $500. It can be purchased for these type prices if you can get a "friend" in the business. The unit is well worth the price so far. No skipping, beautiful sound, lots of features, easy installation, and ability to add a changer and a TV monitor. If you have the cash and want the BEST in dash player, get the Kenwood. If not, get the CHEAPER aiwa, and wish you got the Kenwood.

PS...Don't bother asking for details on the deals, I can't get them for others. I just wanted to save people the heart break of getting the inferior aiwa at what wouldn't be a hot deal.

The Kenwood does not have a removeable faceplate.
So you'll lose your Kenwood in a month or two or your Aiwa will break in a month or two. Take your choice.

Your comments has no relevance. The Aiwa is a superior product because it is easier to find, AFFORDABLE, and does it's job with minor problems only. Good luck on paying $700+ for the Kenwood. It's only good since you got it for about 1/2 off. That's like me saying the JVC I got for $300 is superior to the Nikon 990.

Because it is easier to find and is more affordable does not mean its superior. I personally hate kenwood...but the kenwood is by far better. I guess the aiwa will do for people who are use to listening to stock systems, but to people who are use to high end car stereos..it will sound like ass.
