I'm almost done watching Ancient Aliens...and I got to say, it's extremely convincing.

*The rocks weigh 1,000's of tons
*Human's can't lift rocks
*Ancient humans didn't have machines to move rocks that big
*Therefore Aliens may have existed

That's pretty much the theme of everything :\

/sarcasm

But some things I find really interesting...is the architecture of those old buildings. This series really kind of delves into it and it's wonderful to see :awe:

I would love to see the pyramids at Giza...but I feel like it is one of those things you see and you are like "Oh, they looked more grand on TV"

Anyone been there?

Having seen some of the wonders, including the Great Pyramid, I can assure you that no one ever, in the history of the world, has ever said that.

I've heard it about Mount Rushmore

Granted it's no seven wonders of the world, but it certainly looks epic on TV.

Oh and Stonehenge for that matter lol

I can see some saying this about Mt Rushmore, because you really do not get a good feel for just how large and epic the creation was/is from the common view points. However, standing in the shadow of the great pyramid, you will see the world differently after that.

mount rushmore and crazy horse are very high off the ground. and very big. so no.

and those shafts in the pyramids. they were likely engineering shafts for building them. egyptians had very advanced engineering. there are references on how they built them. they moved stone slabs up on wooden logs.

And more importantly they had a nearly endless supply of expendable slaves. A little understanding of leverage and a lot of sweat can get things done.

actually they think slaves did not of the work at all. they think farmers and hired jobless were mostly used. workers got good rations apparantly. like bread and booze

The rocks do not weight 1000s of tons. Not even close. Some of them weigh only a ton or two. The largest being around 80 tons. This is easily movable with hundreds or thousands of people, with enough leverage and enough time.

Everything on the History Channel should be taken with a grain....I mean, a bottle of salt.

was thinking more of these...but like my original post, I'm not really suggesting alien tech was used.

Prove it. Oh wait, you can't. And nobody can. I think ancient wonders all need to be torn down and make way for more parking lots and shopping malls and progress and stuff.

if i wind up on another planet, with an ancient civilization on it, instead of teaching them math, medicine or chemistry, i'm going to make them pile up lots of big rocks, because that makes sense.

It made sense to the Aztecs when you needed an easy way to get rid of the sacrificial bodies on top. And it saved on paint, too. Supposedly you can still see the blood stains on many pyramids stairs and sides there.

And you don't want to argue with a nasty Aztec God who craves blood, because, well, you know, he craves blood. So there's that.

Stonehenge looked a lot smaller in person to me than I was expecting. Still cool to see though.

I think they should make a show called "Ancient Asians" that shows us how they came up with everything well before the rest of the world did because they're really really smart.

As I mentioned in another thread, the Saudi regime did just that in Mecca, tearing down most of the historic city and replacing it with high rise hotels. The Wahhabist brand of Islam the Saudis promote has no use for culture.

Same in Iran; most of the city the Greeks called Persepolis is gone now. In that case, the artifacts were pre-Islam, so that meant they were heresy and should be destroyed.

Even in Iraq (Babylon and other related cities), though that was less due to religion and more to just Saddam Hussein's ego.

You'd be amazed at the technology humans came up with even 10000 years ago. Leverage and certain aspects of physics and mechanics were well employed by ancient peoples.

I'm not sure how these peoples working with hand tools only could make stone look like this,
the extreme perfection of the lines is amazing, then at the whole site there are countless more examples of fitting extremely large, precision-cut stones together at Puma Punku. Construction experts working with today's powered tools have gone on record as saying "I don't know if we could do it nearly as well". I'd rather doubt it was ancient aliens but clearly these people had discovered/invented a technology that is unexplainable to modern man..

A lot of stone, sandstone, most limestones, is soft and easily carved. Much of the more intricate ancient stonework you see is created of these materials. Stone carvers today have better tools, but still use essentially the same manual techniques.
