Alienware has FX6800 already?

Yeah.... I thought this was awesome until I tried to configure one at their site. They give you an error message that to choose the latest card you have to uprgade to a 650 watt power supply!!! Check out this thread: power. I just can't see the reasoning when Nvidia said you only need a 480 watt supply... unless Alienware knows something we don't???

alienware = a rip off. They force you to buy so many unnecessary things...I just find it interesting that they claim to have them in stock. It makes me wonder how soon the other vendors will have them!

Yeah... Alienware has been pretty good with Nvidia products (good relationship). Nvidia has said their merchandise will be on retail shelves (I'm thinking maybe newegg) by the 26th of this month. I can't wait to see. I am also interested to see this card from the various manufacturers and with updated drivers (some quality issues in Far Cry & Command & Conquer).

I have heard a few sites say this... I was assuming that Nvidia is having a premature announcement and a follow-up availability on the 26th (when ATI releases and goes to the retailers at the same time possibly?)

NVIDIA's NV40 (GeForce 6800) officially launches April 13th, but retail availability will occur around April 26th. Notice the NV40 product to be released April 13th is GeForce 6800, not GeForceFX 6800. ATI's naming scheme for R420 has been closely guarded as well, but the open term we hear from vendors is "Radeon X800."

There used to be a few sites saying this.... maybe they have pulled back on this date?

i'm hoping Cyberpower gets some quick, they agreed to replace my 256mb 9800 Pro and I want to try and pay up to get the FX6800 Ultra or maybe even the Non-ultra...dunno if I have the power supply to handle it. I have 3 hard drives, 3 disk drives, 1 ATA controller, 1 Audigy 2, 1 floppy all plugged in right now hehehe

He might be referring to the fact that they dropped the FX from "FX6800", not that he hasnt heard of the product.... Its just the 6800 Ultra now.

480watt PSU is the minimum required, but when you add all the other power hungry parts a 650watt PSU is a much better idea..
