Or just an articulate man of principle, and a competent judge worthy of a Supreme Court position...who is not going to be baited into partisan tainted questions aimed at prolonging or otherwise derailing Bush's nomination. And well coached by Lindsay Graham et al.

even the best of them need coaching. it's not really surprising.
Reasonable responses to baited questions that do not deserve a response.Alito isn't saying anything. "I don't know." "I don't recall" "I've racked my brain..."

Aren't the Congressional Confirmation Hearings less about asking questions of a candidate to see if he's worthy
and more about letting the individual Senators pontificate, and blustwer from their soapboxes to confirm
to all the American People that Congressmen are in fact illiterate loons who should be
removed from office
and put behind bars to protect society from their boundless stupidity ?
I don't see a member of EITHER party saying anything of substance, and surely non deserves a singel vote for re-election.
Alito, on the other hand, just might be a Princeton Party Animal.

I fear what a Democratic President will do as much as a Republican. We are only free because we have laws protecting our freedoms. Once the President can decide what the law means, in his opinion, you have a defacto dictatorship.Originally posted by: rickn

Alito can believe all he wants, so long as he adheres to the Constitution and the concept of legal precedent...something his record clearly indicates, meaning that his personal feelings aside, we can expect Alito, like his predecessors, to not confuse personal beliefs with the mandate of the Supreme Court.Alito believes that the President should be the Supreme Commander. For that and that alone, this man should NOT be on the Supreme Court.
You guys have been spewing this crap for a couple of years now...still waiting for the rise of Bush's Fascist States of America...the doom and gloom some of you project is astonishing, but also amusing.Enjoy it until the Supreme Court allows the President to do anything he da*m well pleases and America is a democracy in name only.

Exactly.. if the truth may not look right .. just say you don't know, can't remember or anything else you can think of to avoid it.
