Television was what made them a household name. Now they are losing that market to other innovative companies. It shows in the price for their 4K tvs and their non-existant OLED television. Even Samsung buys FHD television panels from Sharp in the 40" range. There is another television firm, Westinghouse, that does business with Samsung. Their 110" 4K television? It's $300K. It appears as if Samsung and its partners have priced themselves out of the market. Since Samsung is not known for making quality products, who will buy their expensive crap?

What?

Yeah I know, LG and Samsung own the TV market.

I'm not sure how that equates to Samsung pricing themselves out of the market.

Honestly you're like one of those "Apple is doomed!" clones.

If "Samsung is doomed" because of the state of their phone and display business then God help Sony et al.

I'm not sure how what I said could not be clearer if you took high school or college economics. LG is sharing the cost by selling to different tv manufacturers. This allows them to charge less per panel. Samsung only has themselves (and Westinghouse, I believe, unless they decide to bail). Guess which manufacturer's 4K panel is cheaper? It's LG's. Samsung charges $40K for their 85" 4K television and $300K for the (Westinghouse) 110" tv. Those are ridiculous prices (LG's 84" 4K is $15K and SONY's is around $20K) and Samsung got to where they were by offering low prices. How, by doing what LG is doing now. Now, the tv manufacturers have abandoned them and they have to pass the cost on to customers. Except, the customers have other options. That means Samsung will not be as successful as a panel maker, unlike before. Also, Samsung buys 40" and smaller panels and 75" and larger panels from Sharp Electronics. This signals that their own panel prices are uncompetitive...

Wait...

You're using the price of 4K displays as an indicator of market fitness and evidence that Samsung isnt competitive in the home market?

Really?

Ok, stay with me here.

1) Samsung is no longer the world's largest panel maker.

2) Samsung buys panels from other manufacturers.

3) Samsung has priced itself out of the market of 4K televisions.

4) Samsung's HD OLED televisions are nowhere to be seen whereas LG's OLEDs are available today. Next year, Japanese manufacturers will come onboard with 4K OLEDs.

So, what do we have here? These four indicators say that Samsung is losing marketshare as a panel maker and it is behind in the next generation television market, price-wise and manufacturing-wise. This is a company that was very aggressive in prices and manufacturing. Now it is a laggard. As with the Japanese overcoming the Americans, then the Koreans and Taiwanese overcoming the Japanese, these things do not happen overnight. But we can all see the signs...

Oh no!! It only has a quarter of the global display market. Doomed I tell you!!

2) Samsung buys panels from other manufacturers.

That would suggest that they are selling so much stuff that they cant keep up with demand. Not sure how that is a bad thing.

3) Samsung has priced itself out of the market of 4K televisions.

There is no 4k market.

4) Samsung's HD OLED televisions are nowhere to be seen whereas LG's OLEDs are available today. Next year, Japanese manufacturers will come onboard with 4K OLEDs.

Whoopie for the Japanese 4K OLED manufacturers. There still wont be a 4K market next year either though.

So you're saying if you're not first in every market sector you're doomed? Thats an... interesting... outlook anyway.

One thing not many people mention about Touchwiz is the excellent browser. Samsung Touchwiz browser is usually the fastest and smoothest browser on Android. S4 browser has built-in Flash support even on Jellybean which is nice.

This is very true. I always used Chrome or Dolphin or Opera, basically anything other than the stock browser. On my Note 2 though I find the stock browser is the best overall. The only annoying thing was having to add all my favorites manually (one of the reasons why I love Chrome), and there's a Verizon favorite or two that I can't remove.

Well, when you're on top there is only one place to go. And that's happening.

That would suggest that they are selling so much stuff that they cant keep up with demand. Not sure how that is a bad thing.

Not necessarily. It can just mean they don't want to invest in new fabrications or their own products are not competitive.

There is no 4k market.

Of course there is. There has been a 4K market since early 2012, starting with Toshiba. then LG and SONY entered the race.

Whoopie for the Japanese 4K OLED manufacturers. There still wont be a 4K market next year either though.

Dismiss it all you want but there is now and it'll be bigger next year.

No, that is not what I'm saying. I'm saying that evolution is happening. Samsung's customers and partners are moving sideways, not unlike Apple, because they know the company uses them to subsidize it's expenses and products. None of this is difficult to understand. I would use some choice words for you but that is not allowed in this sub-forum.

Answers are in bold.

Sorry mate, I just sometimes needs to find out how deep the rabbit hole goes. Not seen any sign of an end yet.

Anyway I'll leave it.

Samsung is worth 337 billion dollars and its mobile market cap alone is 200 billion,I don't think Samsung has anything to worry about. It has built fabs just for apple to make there parts also and now owns part of sharp.

Is there any reason why you repeatedly tell us false information with respect to Samsung? You've done it before and you're doing it again. Your information is not difficult to verify.

Also, it's nice of them to build that fab for Apple in Austin. I wonder what'll happen to it when Apple leaves them...

Samsung has many products from tvs to medical equipment and its very simple to do a quick search on what they are worth.

Heck there mobile division is making billions profit quarters alone. There last 2 quarters made more NET profit then what LG as a whole company is worth, well about a billion off but you get the picture!

wonder what apple would do without Samsung? I bet its killing you knowing they are being sued over the mbp laptop for using LG and Samsung screens and the LG ones having ghosting and image problems.

I also said worth,as in all there assets and fab and patents they own is worth over the 330 billion mark and there market cap is over 200 billion right now alone in there stock exchange.

lg's market cap is what? 10 billion? lol you must hate that your iphone 5 has a cpu built by Samsung in its very own fab!!! yeah Samsung is worried to be out of the market lol are you the guy over at mac rumors that hates Samsung so much that he went out and even bought a new fridge and tossed his Samsung made one?
