I went from a 4S to a VZW Gnex and wow talk about night/day in terms of battery. Of course I was warned going into it so knew what to expect. To be honest the thing that bothers me more than anything is having the damn thing reboot two or three times a day for no apparent reason. That's the bigger gripe I have about Android relative to iOS.

But then when I think about changing back I realize it would be to some strange 4" screen and I really just don't want to do that. Apple needs to do a 4.3" screen (not just via elongation this time!) to get me back.

Apple is getting desperate, going on the defensive and trying to downplay Samsung's announcement tomorrow: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324077704578358760931327672.html

This was unheard of during the Jobs era, and another sure sign that Apple is slowly on it's way down.

Besides Schiller shilling for Apple corporate, we have some Apple users doing the same here on the forums, I see.

What? Apple ALWAYS pulls stunts like this. When Jobs was alive they would make big announcements right before or during CES (and other tech events) to take the spotlight away from them. That way, people would be talking about Apple during the events. This is nothing new.

Quick, guys, announce your watch or something!

I didn't expect this development. What exactly did he think this would accomplish besides making Apple look scared?

Take attention away from the upcoming event? How difficult is that to understand. Apple has been pulling this stunt longer than I can remember. This is how they are. It's what they do. If you think this is something new from Apple then you're sadly mistaken and don't pay attention to tech news...

Nothing surprising really. Google does the same thing for MS launch events. They make a launch event a few days before microsoft and then do a paper launch with the actual product out in 3 months just to get attention away from microsoft.

They all do this.

Indeed, Apple drew attention away from Samsung's event today by announcing a brand new product: the Peter Shiller. Rent him out for your competitor's next product launch

Try again.

Have a rom installed? I have the sprint gnex and it has never rebooted on its own.

Nope, stock. Probably some app but I just don't feel like troubleshooting it. Is there anything natively available or in the app store that could log what causes a reboot?

Hmm, apps can cause battery drain but I haven't heard of one causing reboots (that's almost always relegated to custom ROMs). I assume you've check the obvious things like reseating the battery right?

I think your extreme hatred for Apple is clouding your thought process. There is nothing interesting to see here. It's no different than when Samsung handed out invitations to its March 14th event at CES. Or when Samsung put out their "The Next Big thing already here" advertisements with the date on the phone the same as Apple's iPhone 5 announcement.

The iOS doesn't tell u screen on time like android does

It shows "Usage time" and "standby time".

Usage time is when you're using the device(screen is on). Standby time is when its off.

This bit made me smile.

The executive said the Android devices suffer in part because different elements come from multiple companies, whereas Apple is responsible for all its mobile hardware and as well as its iOS operating system.

All its hardware? I'm sure that there is a well known Korean company that helps out with that. Can't quite put my finger on the name though...

Apple designs it and Samsung fabs it. Following a cooking recipe doesn't make you the chef.

Samsung creates their own hardware, but Android isn't theirs.

It resets to zero when your battery is charged to 100%. If it didn't reset for your bro then he didn't charge it all the way.

It was said that apple was going down its peak since the Jobs’s leave. Now I totally believe in it.

On second look, the *content* of Schiller's attack is even sadder.

that's my whole point, you can easily fake your results by zapping the phone for 30 min and not reseting your screen time,in the android power use it will show when the device was plugged in.

and can you tell us how apple explains to Samsung how to build a process node and how to make it all work from the ground up,you do know Samsung built a fab just for apple right?its a lot harder then following a recipe and just so you know Samsung can and does build better socs and has been making them longer then anyone.

the silicon has to be designed from the get go to work on your process and that is all done by Samsung and apple has absolutely no idea how to build a chip.

do you think if intel gave its recipe to amd on how to build a 3d trasnsister they could just hand that to tsmc and have them build the chip? I think Samsung blew 10 billion just to build and design a fab to make apples socs so no they didn't just follow a recipe like you think and made that pretty little chip in your phone.

That wasn't his actual words. Those were written by the author. Notice how its not in quotes.

I don't know if there's a transcript of the interview, but if he said Apple makes everything then it's not necessarily true. What apple does do is design the entire device (software/hardware).

Ah yes, I've been faking my battery life. Lol. I don't carry a charger with me, it stays on my night stand.

Here's another screen for you.

Still at 100% too as I type this. It would reset to zero if I plugged it in at 100%.

As for Samsung better than Apple at designing SOCs? Samsung doesn't build custom ARM chips like Apple or Qualcomm. Their octo core is their way of making A15 efficient.

Do you still believe Samsung could have released an ARM15 smartphone years ago? Lol.

Not if your S4 comes with a Exynos processor.
Yes, but the International Galaxy S IV Exynos is shipping with PowerVR GPU versus the US SnapDragon 600 version which will be shipped with "meh" and/or "gimped" Adreno graphics.

Apple designs the ram, the flash memory, the radios, camera hardware, screen, sensors....?

Interesting. I had no idea Samsung's "Exynos" chips were straight ARM-referenced chips. You'd think they would at least try to make it better. No wonder they are SoC-agnostic. If this is true then "Exynos" chips are not superior to Apple's or Qualcomm's SoCs since nothing differentiates them from the reference designs...

For the record look at who brings Apple into these threads. First it was Mr. grkM3 who apparently has the best S3 ever made and HAS to compare it to the iPhone and then it was Mr. jpeyton bringing up "Apple going on the defensive" article. Don't tell me about how Apple fans troll Android topics, Android fans like to do it themselves.

I think we're all be happy to see this hubbub end and be ultimately underwhelmed. The S4 will be likely as good an overall package as the other recently launched 5" flagship Android phones - maybe slightly better due to Samsung's deeper pockets, but not significantly different. It'll be a chocolate vs. vanilla thing for most consumers.

I think we're at a plateau where improvements are plentiful, but not really impactful anymore. Processors are pretty fast and experiences are mostly lag free, LTE is expected (at least in the US), screens are retina level +, etc.

It's going to be the same thing with the Apple 5S - it's going to be some step forward but without any true wow moments (which IMO last ended with the iPhone 4 launch).

2013 is going to be the year of stagnation until someone breaks the mold in 2014 and shakes things up again.

Your usage is time while the phone is not sleeping/idle I don't see your on screen time here and like Itold you it doesn't show the on screen time like android does.if you are saying you get 8 hours of usage then I get 20+ easily lol

There octo core is arms official big little design and will blow the doors off of any hybrid others are making.Samsung has always stuck to official arm cores with there socs and have been ahead of everyone in performance for doing so.

They were the first to build an a15 core last year but had no use for it and yes if they wanted to they could of used it in the note 2 but wasted there resources building the apple soc for the iPhone 5
